I have downloaded the published vital records of Haverhill, MA, through ca. 1849, and extracted all the Bradley references (including spelling variations). If you are interested, please e-mail me and I will send you three files of the records of births, marriages, and deaths in a single ZIP file as an attachment. Each of the three files is approximately ten pages, and is in MSWord 7.0 format. Wilson DeCamp Vienna, VA

The BRADLEY mailing list is for the discussion and sharing of information regarding the Bradley surname and variations (e.g., Bradlee, Bradely, Bradleigh, Bratley) in any place and at any time. My name is Jim Young, email address: myoung@icok.net RootsWeb considers me the listowner; however, up-front this list in reality is owned by all subscribed members, for without such... a list would not exist. Therefore, I shall consider myself as the list moderator and as such will NOT mandate any self-proclaimed rules, except the following. "Please treat each list member as you wish to be treated." There are some COMMON SENSE practices for this list and will be discussed later. RootsWeb, the home of the BRADLEY list plus many other thousands of genealogical mailing lists, is supported monetarily by annual voluntary contributions through their Member, Sponsor and Donor Membership Programs. Although there is no requirement to become a contributing Rootsweb member to access the mailing lists and search the archives, please consider becoming either a RootsWeb Member ($12), Sponsor($24) or Donor($$$). Information on RootsWeb's ongoing and proposed genealogical programs and how you can support their effort can be viewed at the following URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/ Members of this list who cannot access the URL site are encouraged to contact me personally, and I'll gladly provide the RootsWeb information, privately. I'm soliciting your support in making this list a friendly, pleasant and an exciting place to discuss ancestors from the distant past. NOTICE !!!! RootsWeb prohibits posting test messages, virus warnings, chain letters (FCC, Bill Gates, etc.), political announcements, current events, missing children reports, flames, etc. to the list. Such postings could result in your removal from the list for a period of time. RootsWeb also prohibits sending HTML formatted message to the list. Vacations. When you go on vacation, you may wish to UNSUBSCRIBE from the list; and, then when you want them to start again, simply SUBSCRIBE again. Posting Messages. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to BRADLEY-L@rootsweb.com. It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both. Archives. All messages posted to the list are sent to a webpage archive file. These archived messages will be available to the internet public who has a web browser. After having a opportunity to view the archived messages, it becomes evident why using meaningful subject lines on messages becomes a necessity. An example of a meaningful subject line is as follows: John BRADLEY, 1740-1821, VA, TN or BRADLEY Marriages, Henry Co., VA. Searchable archives are available at: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Find easy instructions for using RootsWeb's Search Engine for the Archives at: http://www.shelby.net/shelby/jr/robertsn/rwsearch.htm Common Sense Rules. Since I don't like rules particularly those which will impede communications, below are some common sense DOs and DON'Ts for this list: (1) DO post all follow-up responses to the list for the benefit of all those interested and for archive purposes; (2) DO NOT send idle chit-chat messages to the list for someone will yell at you; (3) DO NOT send email ATTACHMENTS to the list because attachments will lock-up some email programs. PLEASE... DO NOT SEND GEDCOM FILES TO THE LIST; instead, send it to the member's personal email address with prior coordination; (4) DO NOT send messages greater than 20,000 bytes (20KB) to the list because they will not be processed; and, (5) DO have fun and some excitement in searching for and finding your ancestors and new cousins. By all means, please post any surname related information passed to you or discovered during your research which may benefit list members now and in the future, even if it is not related to your line. Please feel free to comment on any information posted on this list and consider posting any available documentation references related to the information. Anyone receiving a rude message from anyone on the list are encouraged to forward the message to me for action. If you have any suggestions, comments, questions or problems concerning the list, working a GEDCOM file, accessing archived messages, etc., please contact me using my personal email address; however, comments and suggestions (pro or con) with general membership interest should be posted to the list. Have Fun. COME ON... post your line including any other surname related information and have fun doing it. You may meet a cousin you never knew you had. Jim Young List Moderator and RootsWeb Donor
Greetings to both BRADLEY-ROOTS and BRADLEY list members, Tim Pierce, a staff member of the RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative, asked me if I would be interested in taking over the management of the BRADLEY list formerly managed by Harold Helms. As evident from this message, the answer was YES. I propose to consolidate both lists into one list, namely the BRADLEY list. I would like to suggest to the BRADLEY-ROOTS members also subscribed to the BRADLEY list to unsubscribe from the BRADLEY-ROOTS list. To unsubscribe from the BRADLEY-ROOTS list, send a message to either: BRADLEY-ROOTS-L-request@rootsweb.com (single mail mode) or BRADLEY-ROOTS-D-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode) and enter UNSUBSCRIBE in both the subject line and the body of the message. For members solely subscribed to the BRADLEY-ROOTS list either because Harold Helms kicked you off the BRADLEY list or you didn't like his style of management, please unsubscribe as discussed above and subscribe to the BRADLEY list. To subscribe to the BRADLEY list, send a message to either: BRADLEY-L-request@rootsweb.com (single mail mode) or BRADLEY-D-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode) and enter SUBSCRIBE in both the subject line and the body of the message. Anyone needing assistance, please call on me. I wish each of you a pleasant and enjoyable experience in exchanging information on your BRADLEY ancestors and their descendants, to include related surname variations. >From Book: History of Southwest Virginia by Summers published 1901 "The County Court of Washington County, in the year 1832, was composed of a very distinguished body of men, the fathers and grandfathers of many of the present generation, and it may be of interest to many persons to know the appearance and character of the members of that court, given by a writer who was personally acquainted with each of them and who was a very competent judge of men. " (Rev L.F.Cosby) ...... " Among the group of justices on the left, you see two brothers of large stature and strong features. They are of peculiar mould and utterly disregard the vain blandishments of the world, and deal only in realities. These are Major Abram and Captain Reuben Bradley." page 477 Not my line ,however I do find the descriptions fascinating. ~Paula~

Harold Helm is no longer a RootsWeb member, and doesn't manage this list any more. We're looking for volunteers to replace him; please send me mail if you're interested. You do not need to be a RootsWeb Sponsor. Harold may want to set up replacement lists at another site. If and when that happens, we'll let you know where the new lists are and how to subscribe. That way, anyone who prefers his way of doing things can unsubscribe from this list and join him in his new enterprise. It's up to you. Sorry about the inconvenience! We'll try to make this transition as smooth as possible. Regards, Tim Pierce RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative system obfuscator and hack-of-all-trades
