I was poking around on the internet when I found your inquiry. My mother is a Lott, her mother is Hazel Lott... formerly Hazel Cannon - daughter of Fanny Cannon - daughter of Thomas J. and Mittie Bradley - James' Brother. If you have any information that you could pass along to me - that would be great! My cousins are searching also for family history. Here are the "letters"... seems someone wanted to write a book at one time... they were very precise... this is interesting... enjoy! Retyped as read... JAMES CLIFTON BRADLEY James Clifton Bradley was born in Virginia in 1815 and lived in Richmond, where he had five brothers and three sisters. He mirgrated down to Vienna in Dooley County, Georgia, and married Kizanna Clemmons and had eight children, which were born there. About 1855 he and his brother-in-law Jesse Clemmons and his wife Becky, and their families relocated to Madison County,Florida. James Clifton Bradley was a Deputy Sheriff while in Dooly County, Georgia. After about one year's stay in Madison County, Florida, they moved to what is now Suwanee settled there. James Clifton lived at about three miles south of Brandford in Township 7, Range 14, Section 35. To James and Kizanna Bradley were born the following: 1. George W. died young unmarried 2. James William m. Duck 3. Samantha "Sallie" m. Eaf Young 4. Tizanna "Lou" m. Peterson then Wm. Hall 5. Policy "Plyson" m. John Hall 6. Amanda "Wanda" m. Ridgeway then Hill 7. Holly m. Berman 8. Thomas J. m. Catherine Missouri Hunt, dau. Jack During the Civil War deserters would run away and come down the Suwanee River and James Clifton Bradley would give them something to eat. The soldiers would come looking for them and they would get onto him for feeding them and he would tell them that if a man came to his door hungry he could not send him away hungry and didn't think that they would either. One year Kizanna Bradley would get everything together and to to Lake City, Florida to do her shopping. She would do her year's shopping which included going to the drug store and getting a year's supply of medicine. They hired a teacher one time to teach the children. His name was Cook, and he stayed in a cabin next to the main house. When he would walk down the road, he could call the chickens or even the pigs and they would follow him. THOMAS J. BRADLEY Thomas J. Bradley, youngest son of James Clifton and Kizanna Clemmons Bradley, was born in Dooly County, Georgia in 1856 on July 30. He moved with his parents to Madison County, Florida for one year and then to Suwanne County, Florida and remained there most of the rest of his life. He was married to Catherine Missouri Hunt, Daughter of Jack Hunt, about 1880. "Kittie" as she was called was born in Florida in 1856. Tom, as he was called by everyone, lived just south of Branford, Florida, approximately at Township 7, Range 14, Section 35. He had about 200 acres of land that he reportedly bought from the state. He was a member of the Methodist Church and at one time he asked the church to take his name from the Church membership because he chewed tobacco and did not want to give it up. At one time Branford was called Rolands Bluff and the man who owned it once tried to sell him the land there for 25=A2 an acre and Tom did not want it. Tom Bradley was a great lover of hunting and fishing, and devoted much of his time to it. He was supposed to be about half Irish, and he had a quick Irish temper. One morning Tom got up before daylight, and was going to cross the river to hunt, and as he was on the way to the river he heard a noise behind him, and thinking that it was his old dog he just told him to go back home, and did not look around to see what it was. This was all before daylight and when he reached the river he got into the boat and sat down in the front end of the boat and waited for daylight to paddle across the river. When he picked up the paddle and brought it around to shove the boat off, a big wildcat jumped from the other seat onto the bank and turned around and growled at him. Tom was out hunting one day and was calling turkeys when he saw something out in front of him which kept crossing back and forth and coming closer. Then as it got closer he saw that it was a wildcat, he shot at him, and he ran off in the bushes... a couple of days later his brother came by the place near where he had shot at the wildcat and saw some buzzards and stopped to see what it was, and it was the wildcat, which was the only one that Tom ever killed. To Tom and Kittie were born the following children: 1. J.H. m. Sarah Ellen Cannon, daughter John Geo.W. b. Dec. 9, 1887; b. Nov. 29, 1884; m. Oct. 10, 1901 2.Cliford m. Bob Sumner b. Aug. 18, 1884; b. Jan. 29, 1883; m. June 5, 1902 3. Victoria (Kit) m. Elisha Earls 4. Cleatford m. Vick Aderholt 5. Jettie m. Lon Hunt 6. Fanny m. Staton b. Nov. 3, 1892 7. Tom m. Viny Hatch 8. Bonney m. Pearly Bass b. Oct. 29, 1900 Tom Bradley died January 7, 1924 at Mulberry, Florida and was buried at the Hunt Cemetery about 5 miles east of Branford, Florida. Kittie Hunt Bradley died April 1, 1922, and was buried at the Hunt Cemetery.

    3. This message is directed to all members subscribed to the list in either the Mail mode (messages received individually) or Digest mode (messages accumulated in a single message). The purpose of this message is an attempt to conserve RootsWeb Archive space and make messages easier to read and understand. On occasions, members subscribed in the Digest mode will return the entire Digest of messages when responding to a particular message within the Digest or when forwarding a particular message from the Digest of another mailing list. Such practices take-up unnecessary storage space within the RootsWeb Archives and besides, trying to sort through an entire Digest of quoted messages to find the applicable quotes to a particular message can become a difficult task. Please, DO NOT hit your "Reply" button and return the entire Digest of messages to the list when responding to or forwarding a particular message. If you choose to use your "Reply" button to quote a particular message within the Digest, please edit the "Subject:" line to reflect the subject of the message being quoted. Prior to sending your response to the list, PLEASE highlight and delete all quoted text not applicable to your response such as headers, taglines and other messages. On occasions, members subscribed in the Mail mode will respond to a particular message without deleting unnecessary quoted text. Prior to sending your response to the list, PLEASE highlight and delete all quoted text not applicable to your response such as headers, text and taglines. For example, when responding to a question concerning an individual in a descendant report which is a 20,000 byte message, the responder does not have to return the entire 20,000 byte message as a quoted message to address the question. Probably, all except five or six lines can be deleted from the quoted message. 2. Brenda Nichols
    3. I don't know the year that Thomas BRADLEY was born ...he died in 1849. Later census with his children state that their father was born in South Carolina. His will, probated in Clarke County, Alabama, names all 15 of his children and his current wife Jane B. (Joiner). He had only been married to her for 2 years. His first son, John BRADLEY was born in 1819 in Mississippi. His next eleven children were born in Florida (a later obituary for one of them said Escambia County) Robert BRADLEY wasborn in 1820 Mary Ann BRADLEY was born in 1821 James BRADLEY born in 1822 Richard BRADLEY was born in 1823 Elizabeth BRADLEY was born in 1824 Edmond BRADLEY born in 1826 Charles H. BRADLEY was born in 1827 Josephine BRADLEY was born in 1828 William Henry BRADLEY was born in 1829 Andrew S. BRADLEY was born in 1831 Margaret 'Peggy' T. BRADLEY was born in 1836 Then the rest of the children were born in Alabama Joel G. BRADLEY was born in 1837 Rebecca BRADLEY was born 1847 in Clarke Co, Al Caladonia M. 'Donie' BRADLEY was born in 1849 in Clarke Co., AL. I would like to know the parents of Thomas BRADLEY, where and when he was born and any siblings. I would like to know his first wife's name. I understand from old family letters that she was an Indian and the census for her children say she was born in Florida. In Thomas BRADLEY's will the name Gunncillis is mentioned in connection with the older children. In the early 1800's in Florida, there was a few people with the surname Gonzalez. I wonder if Gunnicillis may be an attept to spell Gonzalez. I think there may have been a second wife, and Jane B. Joiner may have been the third wife. There are so many descendants of this man, there must be someone out there with some information. I have a lot of information on those descendants, too, if anyone is interested. Thank you, Brenda Nichols Nixx@dixienet.com

    3. In the 1789 Census of Wilkes County Lawrence bradley is listed in Thomas Fargusons District of Wilkes County. There was 1 male 16 and upwards 1 male 16 and under 4 females The district that he was living in was a few miles from Burke County. When the boundaries were changed this part of Wilkes became Burke County. However to add to my confusion there is a John Bradley that lived very close to where Lawrence lived but was in the Burke County .John Bradly (notice spelling, my family spells Bradley, and Bradly either way) I always look for both spelling. The person living next door was William Bailey whos son married a Bradley girl. They later moved to White County where they are living close to Jackson Bradley in 1860. Burke County list John Bradley as being a chain barrier. In the marriage records for Burke County are: Bradley, James Reele, Mary Nov 11, 1817 I do not know who he belongs to unless it is the son of this John. There was 1 male 1 and upward 1 male 16 and under 3 females. Back to Wilkes County we find John Bradley and Ann Wisdom and most of the people that intermarried into this family. John Bradley is listed as being in district No 11 Kings Creek area. This area is to become Caldwell County and it is the County that I find most of my Bradleys but when dividing the counties Kings Creek and Burke County are just a road apart. It may be of interest that Joshua Story lives in the 3rd district Joshua Story's son or Brother will soon marry Clarie Bradley the daughter of John Bradley and living one house down is Moses Tomkins. I name I have seen on the line. John Bradley 1 male 16 and up 3 male 16 and under 6 females If you go by the Census and combining the two this is what you could come with.We can guess that John is the one male that over 16. Now we need three little boy under sixteen in 1790.What makes this harder to do is we do not have a will for John. We have a date of a will posted about 1829 Wilkes County but the will has been lost and the only thing left is the settlement of the estate and the date the will was posted. Inventory of the estate is as followers. Clary Story, Levi Bradley son of James, Sary Searbrough, Calvin Bradley son of William Bradley, William Bradley, Berryman Story brother-in law to Clary Story,Benjamin Schell, Nathan Bailey, Balus West, Elijah Triplett, John Witherspoon,Eli Story, William Carlton, Jessey scarbough,William Dula, Benjamin Beach John Scarbrough, and George Ferguson. Administer Thomas Isbell, and John Father of James who married Hannah Pogue. You can get a copy of the above by writing the Library in Wilkes county. It is in the Jan. 1830 Court records. To tell you the truth I do not know if this is the John who married Rachel Wisdom, or if this is John the son of Rachel & John because this John had a wife name Lucinda that must have died before he did. Also this John would have been at least 100 I believe he is the is the third son that was named in the 1790 Census. My second reason is John Bradley , Rachels Husband lived very close to Ann Wisdom and would have been the person that would have handled her will instead of Laurence. he is not even mentioned in Anns will the others are. I agree with Windel that he died before 1800. So many of those wills were burned in the White house. There is little doubt that James married Hannah Progue. James married Hannah Progue on 1 May 1806 Wilkes County. He was born about 1776.They left Wilkes County and moved to Green County Tennessee. 1. Levi Bradley married Jane Barlow 29 April Wilkes County. 2. Nancy Bradley married Eliphet Barlow 3. James P. married Malinda Nichols 4. Hannah Mielissa m William p. Jeffers 5. Malinda Married Ambrose Knight 6. Lucinda m. John Elliott 7. Cynthia m James Brotherson James Bradley died in Green County Tennessee 1850-60 I hope this helps and fits some of the missing pieces...but if I made mistakes please let me know becouse a lot of my John is a puzzle.

I see I, too, made some typos in my reply to you. None of us is perfect, and I guess that is how (some) of the errors creep into the data.....viruses! :) Have you ever noticed that Richard 1765 named his first son and first daughter in the same order (as far as is known) as his siblings? John, then Susan. Back in the 1903s researchers were adament that Richard's wife was Abadiah DICKEY...which showed up in the middle names of John DICKEY Bradley and Richard DICKEY Bradley. I suppose it is possible that he had a second wife....Abadiah TOMPKINS....just before he left Georgia, and their first child born in Tennessee was Tompkins Bradley-- who, by the way, had a daugter named Drusilla. No marriage records have been found as far as I know. I would also like to point out that I have seen Drusilla spelled: Drusilla; Drucilla; and Druscilla. I sure wish my E-mail program had an automatic spell checker and grammar checker. It is really out of date. Still searching, Gary Bradley

There is a monument in Hopwell Cemetery, Jefferson County, TN, that gives the birth dates for Wilson and Elizabeth, but these are the only dates. This monument is next to one of their sons, Judson, and one of their daughters, Lou F. However, there is an indication that they may have moved to MO and are not buried in TN ("Smoky Mountain Clans, Volume 2" by Donald B. Reagan, 1983, p. 141, 144). Any help on this question will be appreciated. Any information on Thomas BRADLEY (ba 1705- ) & Anne (ba 1710- ) VA will be appreciated, too. Take care! Jim

    3. Gary, I am soooo sorry that I missed your RICHARD T. BRADLEY as son of JAMES BRADLEY AND DRUSCILLA WIDSOM. I am really getting bad at trying to look at something and trying to type at the same time. Seems like I always leave out a line or 2. SORRY from the bottom of my heart. Also I make errors when I type. You are right....JOHN BRADLEY was born 1769 and not 1765 Cynthia Reese ---------- > From: Gerald S. I also wanted to say Mr. Wendel has given permission to use the book. "No copy right is claimed, Permission is hereby granted for copying and using, without consent of, or credit to , the author. I want everone to know that we are not breaking copyright laws however I do want to thank him for the wonderful work that he has done. Maybe using the book as a guide and exchanging information we would be able to fill in the blanks and correct some of the mistakes we have all made. I am not sure what the goal is for the group so instead of addressing the group I will reply to only those that are interested. Thanks Pat
