Dear List, In the records of Bristol, RI, we find that Joseph Nash of Providence, and Mrs. HOPESTILL BRADFORD , of Bristol, were married by the Rev. John Burt on 9 Jan 1756. (The term "Mrs." in this record merely indicated Hopestill's social rank; she was single at the time.) Hopestill was still alive in 1762 or 3, when Joseph Nash and she were parties to the sale of land in Plympton, MA, which had been willed to her father, Capt. Gershom Bradford, by his father, Samuel Bradford.. What has intrigued me for years is the statement, in "Other Descendants of Captain Gershom Bradford" by Charles Bradford Elwood, in NEHGR, Jan 1956, page 48, that "Hopestill, drowned in the Mississippi River; m. Joseph Nash , Providence, RI." Do any of you Bradford fans know the story of that drowning? I have never even seen a proposed date for the event. Any help with this puzzle will be greatly appreciated by Rick Sherman Kensington, CA
