He settled in Monroe County, Tennessee, where he left a will dated September 25, 1843, in which he named his children and his wife MARGARET - he having married a secon time, aftr the death of LAVINIA WILLIAMS, his first wife. JONATHAN TIPTON and his first wife LAVINIA WILLIAMS had the following children: Mary Ann m. Wear; John B.; Edmund W. (surveyor); Willie B.; LUCRETIA TIPTON m. BRADFORD; Triphenia ; Sarah m. Wilkerson; Lorenza Dow; Pleasant M.; Eidridge G.; Jonathan C.; Quincy Adams; Lavinia JEFFERSON COUNTY, TN page 116 JOHN WILLIAMS, who was born in Virginia, and who used to say that he was of WELSH descent, settled in an early day in what is now HAWKINS, or possibly the presnt Claiborne County. He had a son GEORGE WILLIAMS, whose wife was SALLIE MOORE in 1817. She was a native of SURRY COUNTY, NC. They were the parents of S.D. WILLIAMS, born at MOORESBURG, Hawkins Co. in 1823, and who married MISS MARY REESE and after her death MARY E. BRADFORD. He followed farming in JEFFERSON COUNTY. Garner, an old time practicing physician of Polk County, was born in Lumpkin County, Georgia the son of Vinson Garner and his wife Mary M. Wood. Vinson Garner was born in Pendleton District in 1809, his wife in Spartanburg. (SC) Page 557 BEDFORD COUNTY, TENNESSEE In the year 1809 the Legislature formed LINCOLN COUNTY by cutting off the whole South end of BEDFORD COUNTY, and making ELK RIDGE the boundary between the two counties. This left the old county seat of Bedford over the line in Lincoln Co. To remedy this, in the same year the Legislature passed an Act establishing a committee to locate a new County seat for Bedford near its center, according to its new boundaries. Paage 737 JUDGE JOHN READ was one of the notable jurists of West Tennessee. He practiced law in Jackson, Tennessee, for about seventeen years before he assumed his place on the bench of Tennessee. During that period he was associated closely in a professional companionship wtih such men as PLEASANT M. MILLER, ADAM HUNTSMAN, MILTON BROWN, ANDREW L. MARTIN, SAMUEL MCCLANAHAN, ALEXANDER B. BRADFORD AND WILLIAM STODDERT, all of whom were in their day, shining lights of the bar of Jackson.
