Staley Peter, the marriage records of Samuel WILBORE and his first wife Ann, have shown that she was an Ann SMITH, not Ann BRADFORD. I've pasted an abstract of one of the principal references below. Sandy Wilbur Gresham, OR B. F. Wilbour. 1958. The English ancestry of Samuel Wilbore, of Boston, and William Wilbore, of Portsmouth, R.I. New England Historical and Genealogical Record 112 108-118. Discusses relationship of Samuel and William, shows that Samuel's wife was Ann Smith, not Ann Bradford, and discusses origin of Wilbores in England Samuel WILBORE with his wife Ann SMITH and their three children Samuel Jr., Joseph, and Shadrach arrived in Boston in 1633, and joined the church there 1 Dec 1633. It is speculated that they came on the ship "Griffin" which arrived at Boston 4 Sep 1633 (but passenger lists incomplete). Reason for coming to America was almost certainly religious - Laud, Bishop of London, was making things hard for Protestants. The wool market was good at that time, so that was probably not the reason [Wilbores were sheep people]. Samuel was the only child by Nicholas and Elizabeth, but he had three half-brothers (Robert, John, Edmond) and one half-sister (Elizabeth). He married Ann SMITH in Sible Hedingham, Essex Co., England 13 Jan 1619-20, and baptismal records show they had the following children: Samuel Jr. bapt. 10 Apr 1622; Arthur bapt. 28 Dec 1623, died in England; William bapt. 27 Aug 1626, died in England; Jespheff (=Joseph) bapt. 28 Feb 1629/30; and Sidreake (=Shadrach ) bapt 6 Sep 1631. Author does not believe Samuel ever spelled his name "Wildbore" - it was WILBORE; also disputes that Samuel was b. 1585, the previously accepted date. Nicholas did not marry Elizabeth until 1595 or 1596, so Samuel was born between 1595 and 1600, making him 33-38 when he sailed for America. He was living in Sible Hedingham at that time because Shadrach was baptized there shortly before they sailed. __________________________________ Pre-owned Genealogy, History and Natural History Books: http://www.netcom.com/~symbios/genbooks.html
