Hi all. Looks like I need to give some guidelines on how to submit information. 1. I can't post copyrighted material unless you hold the copyright or you received permission from the copyright holder (of which I need to get a copy of the written permission for legal purposes). What I suggest if you want to submit information that has been copyrighted, like in a book, is to take what is relevant to the site and put it in your own words and then let me know where the info came from. What I can then do is to put a link to the copyrighted material (if available online) in the sources section. Remember, photos in a copyrighted book are also considered copyrighted. 2. No gedcomes for your genealogy line. Take a look at the following pages to get a better idea: http://bradford.gendepository.com/biographies/bradbio.html - by individual http://barringer.gendepository.com/biographies/bio1.html - by individual http://black.gendepository.com/biographies/minibios.html - by individual http://bradford.gendepository.com/genealogies/richbradford.htm - by family line http://bradford.gendepository.com/genealogies/bradtn.html - by location http://bradford.gendepository.com/genealogies/bradal.html - by location http://black.gendepository.com/genealogies/ncsclines.html - by location As you can see, these are all different in format, so basically the format is up to you, but no gedcoms. You can do it like an genealogy report, in a story format, or just the facts written out. That part doesn't matter. 3. If you have pictures to submit, that's great! But when it comes to images of documents, please send a transcription as well as the document. The reason for this is that text-to-speech programs used by the visually impaired can't read and image. Unfortunately, with school, I don't have the time to do a transcription myself. If you have an image of a document and don't have time to transcribe it either, go ahead and send the image and I'll look for a volunteer to transcribe. 4. Submit your links if you wish. If you have a website that is relevant to the site, I can add a link to it (and hope you would do the same). That's it for now. 1/2 of the website is now up (Barringer, Black, Bradford, and Coventry) and I expect to get Eller up this afternoon. I'll have to stop working on it after tonight until later next week because of finals, but it's almost ready! I'll send out a final email to all when the whole site is up. Here are the links to the different surname sections. You can go to any section and see if it's up. If it's not, you will get a page that says to come back later. If that is the case, just check back periodically: http://www.gendepository.com (down right now, will be the last to be added) http://barringer.gendepository.com http://black.gendepository.com http://bradford.gendepository.com http://coventry.gendepository.com http://eller.gendepository.com http://hackett.gendepository.com http://hupp.gendepository.com http://kern.gendepository.com Erin ===== Erin Bradford eabradfo@yahoo.com List manager http://www.usgennet.org/usa/nc/county/cabarrus/ http://www.usgennet.org/usa/nc/county/mecklenburg/ ALHN County Coordinator for Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Cos, NC http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~kshai (Current site for the Genealogy Depository) http://www.gendpository.com (Future site for the Genealogy Deository-coming in May!)
