Bradford) told us that John Claude and his brother were full blood Indian (Cherokee I think). He said that John and a brother (no name mentioned) ran away from a reservation in Oklahoma. They caught a ride into Texas in a horse drawn wagon and when they reached the border they seperated. They took the Bradford name as their own from the street sign where they last saw each other. Supposedly they never did see each other again. This is the story I was told as a child from my father. Not sure how much truth was in it as dad loved to tell tales but for family history and geneaology he seems to have been fairly accurate with a sharp mind for details.
