I can't remember whether some of this was in the Huxford books or not. Mine are packed away right now. Seaborn & Priscilla had five sons who volunteered to fight at the beginning of the War of Yankee Aggression. Two were killed early on in the war, Richard, the eldest, and Thomas, the youngest of those who volunteered. William and Berry were taken prisoner early on, and were later exchanged. William was sen home due to ill health. Berry fought on to the end of the conflict. My g-grandfather James Clinton was captured in Savannah by Sherman's forces. Since Seaborn was not a slave owner, he was unable to work his farm since the only sons left at home were only 7 & 12, he also had two daughters. He sold the farm and moved to Clinch County. Please send me a copy of your article. I would love to see it. Sincerely, Nancy Bradford Young

Bradford was the first Surveyor for Berrien County after its formation in 1856. We are celebrating the county's 150th birthday this year, and I am trying to compile biographical data on all our first elected officials for a series of articles I am doing for The Berrien Press. Do you have anything on him beyond what appears in Huxford's Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia that you would be willing to share? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I didn't find the information on John being in jail in Clarksville. I found a black man born the same year as he was that lived in Clarksville. I will have to get my scanner out and plug it up to scan the photos and send them to you. Two of my sons Ed and Bill were in the Air Force. Ed over 11 years and Bill over 10 years. Tommy never went to service as he has diagnosed with a brain tumor. He died January 28, 1999 in Sulphur Srings, Texas. We sure miss him, He has 2 sons and a daughter. He has 4 grandchildren that live in Little Rock, AR. I went to Little Rock trying to find out information on John Claude and was told they didn't start keeping records until around 1900. So there was a wasted trip. Ed doesn't have any children. Bill has a son and daughter. Billy Ray Webb is in the Navy. I don't know where he is now. He was in Florida. Did you get the message that Uncle Clemmie died January 21, 2006. I remarried in June 1972 (a boy I went to school with) and he worked at General Dynamics in Fort Worth. So that is how I wound up here. Dad lives in my house I had built in 1967. Tell June and Margie I said "hello". I remember going to visit Aunt Alice at her little house with all the stray cats prowling outside behind the house and the cherry tree in her front yard. Uncle Oren came to visit us a few times and I remember goint to see him once at his home. Uncle Melvin came to see us often with his wife Margaret and we went to see them often in Paris. I really don't remember their children all that well. I am living Norfolk Virginia now with my husband and two children. I am stationed on the USS Carl Vinson for at least another year. You can e-mail the picture. I have a photo quality printer. Any others you can send would be great. Margie is in Charleston South Carolina. She is married but no children. She works for the federal government too, as an inspector. Agriculture. June is in Windsor Falls Missouri last I heard. She and Dennis have two boys that are in their teens now. Daddy spoke often of Oren and the time when grandad left them. Amanda had just died and granddad left for quite some time. Daddy said he shot rabbits with his slingshot so they wouls have meat to eat. The kids were eventually split up amongst the people in the neighborhood. Dad and Claude went to live with his uncle Frank. The 1920 census shows them living there. It had to have been around 1920 when grandad came back with Mittie York. She is listed on the 1920 census with grandpa, Ruby, Alice Claude, Oren and dad. Her children are not listed. Are you anywhere near Clarksville?

I have a original picture of John Claude, Amanda, Ethel, Ruby and my dad when he was just a baby. I am still trying to find a reputable place to restore the photo and make copies. When I got it it had a minor amount of water damage done to it. I will send you a copy of it if you would like. The last lead I got on John Claude was a census record for 1900 in Red River. A John C. Bradford is listed on the CLarksville prison record born in September of 1879 as a single white male. His parents are listed as father born in Missouri and mother born in Arkansas. He lists his state of birth as Arkansas. Hard to tell what the truth is at this point. Was he telling the whole story to them or just half of it?

    1. a little more about AOL's spam
    2. Erin Bradford
    3. Sorry list to send yet another message to the list, but I wanted to clarify something since the majority of subscribers to all my lists are from AOL. I used to have AOL and learned a lot about how it works. A very valid point was made about AOL having a spam box as well as an inbox, but I found out it doesn't work quite as well as all that. It's true that possible spam is filtered into a spam box, BUT if anyone actually says "yes, that is spam" and marks it as spam, whether it's in the inbox or spambox, it will be put on what they call (I think) a blacklist, which means if they try to send anything from the address again, it won't even make your spambox. What I call "professional spammers" can easily get around this b/c they don't use the same address, or they use anonymous addresses, etc. This blacklist is very difficult to get off of if you send legitimate mail, you can request being added to the whitelist, but that doesn't guarentee that you won't be marked as spam, it just helps increase your chances of getting through. Rootsweb has already had a problem in the recent past where all Rootsweb addresses were put on the blacklist by someone accidently marking the email as spam (per my understanding of what happened). One thing with the blacklist/whitelist thing, everytime you're blacklisted it gets harder and harder to not be marked as spam. I sent the original email to warn AOL/Compuserv users about what was going on just because of all my 9 lists, 75% of the subscribers are from AOL or CompuServ. I'm not exactly sure how CompuServ works, but I know it's either owned or partnered with AOL and probably works very similarly. Even though it probably was an accident that rootsweb was blacklisted initially, it's now highly probable it will happen again and I wanted to give AOL/CompuServ members a warning before it did. If you are an AOL subscriber or CompuServ subscriber and you stop getting mail for a longer period of time than usual, it is very probably that Rootsweb was blacklisted again and of course I can't let you know...because you are subscribed with AOL or CompuServ. Whether you set up an outside mail like yahoo or gmail, that's up to you, I just wanted to give you notice and let you choose. Erin > Dear Erin, in defense of my AOL, I do have a spam box, and it's very > accessible, and I go to it every day just as I would email box. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3YF.2ACIB/1792.2.1.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Dad (M.G. Bradford) told us that John Claude and his brother were full blood Indian (Cherokee I think). He said that John and a brother (no name mentioned) ran away from a reservation in Oklahoma. They caught a ride into Texas in a horse drawn wagon and when they reached the border they seperated. They took the Bradford name as their own from the street sign where they last saw each other. Supposedly they never did see each other again. This is the story I was told as a child from my father. Not sure how much truth was in it as dad loved to tell tales but for family history and geneaology he seems to have been fairly accurate with a sharp mind for details.
