Could you direct me to the main site for the Bradford DNA project? My husband is related through the Brazil Bradford line. Thank you, Phyllis T. From: BRADFORD-D-request@rootsweb.com Date: 2006/03/25 Sat AM 06:00:04 EST To: BRADFORD-D@rootsweb.com Subject: BRADFORD-D Digest V06 #30
Do you have a lineage on kit #18264? Thanks, Gary WELL ..... I always just THINK I have worked on everyone. Evidently laid this aside to come back to later and later never came! The earliest ancestor listed is JAMES BRADFORD, b. in VA abt. 1810, wife b. in Kentucky but no name. (info may be from census) His son EZRA JAMES BRADFORD, b. Jan 12, 1833 in Ohio, d. Feb 25th, 1908 in South Dakota. (From Ohio the family went to Missouri, were neighbors of the JAMES family, and from there spent time in Kansas.) EZRA married ELVIRA WILKES b. May 25th, 1845 in Missouri & d. 29 October 1920 in South Dakota. The children of Ezra & Elvira were: James Everett Bradford, b. abt. 1868 Emmett Lee Bradford, b. 2 Sept 1869 Andrew Co. Missouri, d. 8 Dec 1942 in SD Lulu (a nickname) Bradford, b. abt. 1874 Claudia (Dolly) Bradford, b. abt 1877 Does anyone recognize this line? Virginia - does this line connect to your William b. abt. 1760? The reason I ask is because the JAMES family was connected to Bradfords in SC and this might be a clue. Let us hear.....
Our FTDNA site has been updated. They gave us the opportunity to name groups and color code. This site only has participants who tested through them or the National Geneographic folks who moved over, so both sites will be maintained so all will be included. The site is: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/bradford Hopefully some of the participants without lineages will share. The groups are named by earliest ancestor/place, or in some cases just place. (Space!) FTDNA immediately enters new results - so this site is always on top of things, even when I'm not! I put several notes up, one for LINE LEADERS and the other for participants from lines which are not represented yet. We particularily need participants whose families were in Maryland, or passed through. Maryland seems to be a hot spot of many different Bradford lines that are hard to sort out from just the paper trails. As always suggestions, input, corrections are appreciated. Regards, Becky

Hey all. I just had to share this new information with the list! I'm a descendant of David Bradford of Cabarrus Co., NC. We (me and other researchers of this line I've been in contact with) knew that David was originally from PA that we could tell and that he stopped in Baltimore County, MD for a period of time because of a petition he signed in 1767. Well, I don't know if any of the others already knew about this document or not, but I was at work today at the state library of NC and during lunch was looking through genealogy books on Baltimore county and found 2 books on land deeds during the period he lived there. I found 2 references specifically about David and a 3rd reference that may give us a clue about his family! First, August 25, 1767, John Gosnell, planter of Baltimore Co. and wife Sarah to David Bradford, farmer of same, 65pounds, 63 acres North Side of Lrvells Glade. Signed John Gosnell and David Bradford, witness: William Aisquith and Benjamin Rogers. Then, May 3, 1770, David Bradford, farmer of Baltimore Co., to Casper Starr, farmer of same, 125 pounds, 63 acres. Signed David Bradford Witness: R. Richards and Adam Stan (maybe Starr?) and then... I saw a lot of information on Bradfords in Baltimore County. I don't know if they are related to David or not, but it gives us some leads to check out! One stuck out to me: Oct 21, 1749 William Bradford of Baltimore Co. conveyed to his son John George Bradford pt. of two tracts and Turkey Hills conveyed to William Bradford by the executors of Benjamin Jones. I think this stuck out to me because of Turkey Hills. I have other family lines in Baltimore Co. and it may be associated with them, but I've heard of Turkey Hills, so it makes me wonder. This is exciting to me! It may not be new to others, but it definitely is to me! My husband's father was Raymond Eugene Bradford from Covenington, Kentucky. He was born 29 December 1920, died 24 February, 2002. He was married to Patricia Stelley of Gowanda, New York. His mother remarried after their divorce and his step father adopted him and had his name changed. Raymond Bradford's father was Thomas Taylor Bradford born 12 February, 1900 and died 9 November, 1992. His death certificate from the Commonwealth of Kentucky shows that he was a truck mechanic and widowed at the time of his death. He was married to Minnie Francis Howard. Thomas Bradford's father was Jed Bradford and mother was Elizabeth Clark. They are listed on the 1920 census, county of Fleming. Elizabeth's name is also listed as Jemima which I found out was Jemima Elizabeth Clark. Children Elmer and Cameron are also listed. On the 1930 census just Jed and Eliz. are listed. On the Kentucky 1910 Miracode Index Record from the County of Harrison in Kentucky show wife Elizabeth age 43, so! n Elmer age 12, son Thomas 10 and son Cameron 6. On the death certificate for Jed Bradford, birth 9 June, 1872 and died 22 August, 1969. He was a widow at the time of death. The information was given by his son Elmer Bradford. It shows that Jed's father was John W. Bradford and mother was Mary(but other records show her name as Lucy) Helvey (which is the correct last name). He was born January 1844 and died 12, June 1910. He was in the Civil War in Co. C 18, Infantry Kentucky volunteers and his wife received a Civil War pension. Anyone that has information to this line of the Bradford's please contact me at dietzen@localnet.com

I've been puzzling for years over all the early Worcester County Bradfords, including my own ancestor Samuel, as well as Purnell, Avery, and others. Purnell poses the most problems. There simply aren't many records at all that mention him. About the only clue is his name, which indicates there was probably a marriage to a Purnell in one of the previous generations. Yet, in the case of almost all the early male Bradfords of Worcester, the identity of their wives is completely unknown - so his name turns out to be small help. From what I understand, Purnell's oldest male child was named Jacob. No Jacobs at all in Worcester, though there was one in Accomack. This is the real problem with Purnell - almost all we have to go are names. And apart from these names, there just aren't many clues. A prevailing theory among many on this board with Worcester roots is that all the Bradfords of worcester descend from Nathaniel of Accomack. Nathaniel's son John moved to Worcester in the 1720s, and he had three sons - Nathaniel, William, and John. (An Adam Bradford, also of unknown parentage, shows up briefly in tax records from the 1730s and 1740s, but disappears without a trace.) These are the only known Bradfords in Worcester before 1760. Of the three sons of John, only Nathaniel left a will, and none of Nathaniel's sons left wills - at least not in Worcester. As descendants of Worcester Bradfords we're plagued by a lack of probate records. Some, if not all, of the Bradfords who show up later in Worcester are undoubtedly descended from the original John Bradford who came over from Accomack. But which ones? I am hoping to test my theory of descent from Nathaniel of Accomack by getting descendants of all the Worcester Bradfords DNA tested and comparing them with the DNA of a descendant of Nathaniel of Accomack. So far, I've had myself tested, and also descendants of both Purnell and Avery tested. None of us match. The thing is, to really confirm that our DNA represents our ancestor's DNA, we each need a matching descendant from a different son of our ancestor. This is the only way to rule out such things as hidden adoptions, infidelity, and the like. That hasn't happened yet. Another big lack in this area is that we have yet to find a living direct male descendant of Nathaniel of Accomack for DNA testing. If any are around, one thing's for sure - they are not active in internet genealogy.
