    1. Re: [BRADFORD-L] SAMUEL BRADFORD
    2. Adam Bradford
    3. Jean, I'm very glad you and others are trying to make the same connection between Snowhill Sam and John of Accomack. Definitely more likely than any mayflower connection. Samuel's my ggggg-grandfather. My grandfather Vance Bradford wrote the book "Bradford Descendants" about Snowhill Sam's progeny. (Incidentally, I'm sure many of you own it, but if anyone wants any of the info contained in this book, let me know and I'd be glad to post it.) I also think there's a strong possibility, which many others have mentioned, that Samuel's wife Tabitha was the daughter of John Tarr, Sr., as mentioned in the latter's will. Not only are there no other contender Bradfords that I have seen as yet, but there are lots of Tarr-Samuel connections in Samuel's generation and the one after. Samuel himself appears as a bond for Michael Tarr who died intestate, and Samuel's son James married John Tarr's granddaughter Sarah H. Tarr. If anyone can uncover the identity of Samuel's first wife Sarah I imagine it would be a tremendous clue as to Samuel's parentage. The tradition that she is a Fitzgerald comes from a letter of Snowhill Sam's grandson Samuel Hancock, who mentions that his grandmother was a Fitzgerald and that he didn't know her first name. But then when you go looking for Fitzgeralds in Worcester - what you find is very disappointing. There is a tremendous dearth of Fitzgeralds in Worcester County. There is a Peter Fitzgerrold who appears in some of the Somerset tax lists of the 1730s, but then . . . I haven't found anything yet. Was this where Samuel's son Peter's name came from? The possibility also exists that Sarah was originally a Fitzgerrald, but then married, was widowed and married Samuel with her deceased husband's last name. Also - the 1730-40 Somerset tax lists reveal the existence of 5 Bradfords. There's John Sr. and his 3 sons John, William & Nathaniel - these guys we know. But then there's also an Adam Bradford. Where did this guy come from? I haven't seen evidence of this Adam's existence past the 1740 Somerset Co tax list. I would guess he also is related to John and sons - but how? And since Adam appears as a dependant earlier in the 1730s, I would guess that means he was young and so was in the generation after John the elder. Is he a son who died young? Did he move? Was he a nephew? Who knows? Very tantalizing. Could this Adam be where Samuel's son Adam's name came from, or was that name passed down via his wife Sarah? So many tantalizing hints and clues, so little actual proof. --- JALEX4954@aol.com wrote: > Adam, I am so glad to see your post on Snowhill Sam. > There are a number of > us actively researching this Samuel Bradford who are > also researching this > particular John Bradford line from Accomack, VA as a > possible connection. 1. [BRADFORD-L] Samuel Bradford of Worcester Co. (d.1810-12)
    2. Adam Bradford
    3. To all researchers of Samuel "Snowhill Sam" Bradford: I'm so glad someone pointed out these rootsweb mailing lists, and that so many of you are researching "Snowhill Sam" I grow daily more and more convinced the more I dig that Samuel Bradford is related, if not directly descended, in some way to the John Bradford who moved to Worcester from Accomack. I have found no hard evidence yet - but a case can be made using circumstantial evidence. From memory here's one bit I think is pretty compelling . . . 1) Job Truitt of Worcester mentions in his will (proven 1720) that his property borders on John Bradfords. 2) Job's brother George Truitt disposes of the properties Mulberry Grove & Truitts Harbor in his will (proved 1721). 3) In the 1783 Tax Index for Worcester County, these same properties (Mulberry Grove and Truitts Harbour) show up in the possession of several members of the Truitt family, as one might expect. 4) However these same 2 properties also show up in the possession of a non-Truitt. And that non-Truitt is Samuel Bradford. Is it just a coincidence that some unrelated Bradford ended up on properties once owned by the brother of a nextdoor neighbor of John Bradford? Or is it more likely that Samuel Bradford is related to the John Bradford whose properties bordered the ones Samuel came to occupy? I think the latter. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com

    1. [BRADFORD-L] Joshua & Hannah Bradford
    2. Joshua (1710-58) & Hannah (1719-58) were both great grandchildren of Gov. Wm. Bradford & Alice Carpenter, thus they were 2nd cousins and married Feb 17, 1736 at Kingston, Plymouth, MA. They had 11 children b. between 1737-1757. Which of these children were killed in the Indian attach May 22, 1758 which took the lives of both parents? Did some of the other children die in infancy? Which of the 11 survived? And which of the 11 had descendants? Is anyone on the list tracing the desc. of their children who survived? I am desc. from 8th child Joseph, b. 1750/51 who married Abigail Starling. I have looked at some maps I have of Plymouth Colony, though not very detailed, to tried and locate Kingston and also Meduncook, unsuccessfully. Where were they? What places were nearby? Where is Friendship? I would enjoy sharing information and trying to learn more Peter Burrows, Annapolis, Maryland

    1. [BRADFORD-L] listowner in the hospital...
    2. Erin Bradford
    3. hello all. this is to inform you that of right now, i am no lomnger able to function as listowner for my lists. i w3as admitted to the hospital last night for sseizures and am under going brain surgery probably on wednesday. i know that some of u have taken over the lists for me in the past and if anyone can volunteer, please reply in the next 12 hours so i can give u the passwords {they have changed as the lists have recently been attacked by would-be hackers). Not alot goes into maintaining the lists, just basically helping people w/ subscription problems or helping them post to the correct address. Some lists may be without a moderator for the time being, so a note for all currently subscribed: to unsubscribe, send the email to SURNAME-L-request@rootsweb.com or SURNAME-D-request@rootsweb.com use thw list name in place of SURNAME. L is for the people on list format (each mail sent to the list is sent separately) and D is for those on the digest format (all messages for the day or a cluster of messages sent together in one message). Please use the appropriate address and if ur not sure which version ur on, try both. During my absence, please everyone try and help everyone else, especially the "newbies" to the lists. thank u so much for ur help and keep me in ur prayers. if u respond to volunteer, and i don't get back to u, it is either too late or someone else has taken the reins. for those who take the reins in my absence, please identify urself to the list so others know who to write to inccase they need help. if no one ids themself for ur list, assume there will be no moderator for a period of time. i should be back in full commission by october, so it won't be an extremely long absence. Best wishes and good luck in your research!! 2. Erin Bradford
    3. Hi all. I just wanted to let everyone know that I recently received an email from a fellow genealogy researcher that had a virus attached to it (but I didn't open it). The attachment I received was called Resume1.wps.scr and when I scanned the attachment with Norton, if found the bugbear virus attached. I just wanted to send out a general warning/reminder about attachments in email, even if you know the person who sent it. In this day and age, it's very important to remember to scan an attachment before opening. Yahoo.com does a great job in taking out the guess work of how to scan without opening since there is an option to scan with norton or download without scanning. Good luck all in your research.
