The reason I referred to it as the "Granville Co. area" is because back then, Granville Co. encompassed many modern day counties. I suggest that you go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~Encgenweb/county.html to get a better understanding of county boundary changes and when they took effect. If you haven't been there already, it's a great resource for NC research because not only does it give a text description of the changes, but there is also a link you can follow for the county formation maps so you can visualize those changes. Also, if you're able to go to the State archives of NC in Raleigh, they have the county formation maps all on one sheet for quick reference while you do research away from your computer. Erin

Just wanted to let you know that you probably want to look in one of 2 places in NC for your Samuel's family. There were 2 main Bradford families in NC during the time frame you gave. The first, and mostly likely is the Bradfords in Granville Co. area (Granville, Wake, Orange, Edgecombe, Franklin, etc.). This line, or at least all the ones I've come across were decended from Richard Bradford and Rebecca Pace of VA. The other line that maybe a possibility is the Bradfords in Mecklenburg/Cabarrus Co. (my line). My David Bradford had a son named Samuel, would have been born late 1700's, who supposedly died 1784 (info given to me by fellow research that I can't verify yet, but probably not far off as they haven't been off the mark yet). Like I said, it's more likely that you are from the Granville Co. area Bradfords so I would focus your search for his family/ancestors there, especially if he was from NC and his wife from VA since Granville co. was on the VA/NC border! . Good luck! I've actually heard of this Samuel mentioned on my Bradford list, so if you haven't already joined the list, might be a good idea because there are quite a few of the descendants from the Granville Co. area Bradfords on the list and they can help you more than I could. Hi all! Just a note from the list manager. I am a volunteer host for the Genealogy Chats, Inc. Some of you may be familiar with this, some of you not. Just a little history: For many years, America Online used to have the Genealogy Forum that only AOL subscribers could access. This past summer, AOL did away with the "forum" as a seperate entity/community on AOL and made it a part of the parenting community (those still on AOL can access the new forum through keyword "parenting".) Many (but not all!) of the hosts of the old forum got upset with AOL and got together to create an online chat room that any one with internet access could use, thus the Genealogy Chats, Inc. Well, back to the present, I host 2 chats for the group (nonprofit!). The 2 chats I host are the NC/SC chat on Monday night from 9pm-10pm EST in the room "Cellar" and the IL/IN/IA chat on Friday night from 9pm-10pm EST also in the cellar. To get to the chats, go to the page http://www.genealogyforum.org. From the main page is a link that goes directly to the chat rooms by clicking on the box "Chat Rooms". You can also look at the links under the box called "Today's chats" and "topics" to see a schedule by day of the chats and a schedule by topic of the chats. 27 states are covered, either by a chat like the ones I host, or by a regional chat (Southern, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, etc.) and a new chat is starting on Jan. 2nd called "coast to coast" that will cover all states. The page is new, so there is not a lot to it yet other than chats, but keep your eye on it as it is slowly growing. I'm also on the webteam so I know for a fact more and more resources are coming :o). Oh, and we also have chats for non-US research (Polish, German, Irish/Scottish, Canadian, etc.) So why am I posting this to the lists? Because this can be a great way for people to chat with cousins in real time rather than just through email. For instance, all the Barringers from PA can chat in the mid-atlantic chats and make connections quicker. Someone looking for Coventry in MA and haven't found a connection on the lists? go to the MA chat and see if you can't find help from someone there, maybe a host (us hosts usually have access to many helpful tools on and offline if we are hosting a specific chat rather than a general chat). So come on over and check us out if you get time. All chats are in EST (eastern standard time) so take that into account if you are in another time zone. Hope to see some new "faces" in there soon. For the 2 chats I host, quizzes will be coming in a few weeks to help us all learn more about the states we are searching. These quizzes are intended for fun and learning, and will focus on the specific states of that chat. Interested in general quizzes? Stop on by the Treehouse on Saturday nights from 8pm-10pm EST for loads of quiz fun! Right now, I'm the reigning queen of the quiz on Saturday nights, why not see if you can knock me off my throne?? hehe. Bye for now! Hi List, So far I have not tied in this BRADFORD line to mine. However, I found Marjorie in the 1920 census as follows: The 1920 census for Meriden lists: Bradford, Harry S Age 45 Born New York living at 910 Broad, occupation Gen Supt. (note: Ancestry.com transcription lists him as Henry, but the image is clear as Harry S) Mary E Age 38 George W Age 17 Marjorie E Age 12 I can provide the image to anyone interested. I then found Harry S BRADFORD in two Meriden, CT city directories just recently available from Archive CD Books - USA http://www.abcd-usa.com/ 1914 Vol XL Bradford Harry S Gen Supt MBC Co. h 910 Broad 1920 Vol XLVI Bradford Harry S Gen Supt MBC Co. h 910 Broad Let me know if anyone ties in to this line. If this line descends from Gov. Bradford, then it is not mine. Staley Peter, the marriage records of Samuel WILBORE and his first wife Ann, have shown that she was an Ann SMITH, not Ann BRADFORD. I've pasted an abstract of one of the principal references below. Sandy Wilbur Gresham, OR B. F. Wilbour. 1958. The English ancestry of Samuel Wilbore, of Boston, and William Wilbore, of Portsmouth, R.I. New England Historical and Genealogical Record 112 108-118. Discusses relationship of Samuel and William, shows that Samuel's wife was Ann Smith, not Ann Bradford, and discusses origin of Wilbores in England Samuel WILBORE with his wife Ann SMITH and their three children Samuel Jr., Joseph, and Shadrach arrived in Boston in 1633, and joined the church there 1 Dec 1633. It is speculated that they came on the ship "Griffin" which arrived at Boston 4 Sep 1633 (but passenger lists incomplete). Reason for coming to America was almost certainly religious - Laud, Bishop of London, was making things hard for Protestants. The wool market was good at that time, so that was probably not the reason [Wilbores were sheep people]. Samuel was the only child by Nicholas and Elizabeth, but he had three half-brothers (Robert, John, Edmond) and one half-sister (Elizabeth). He married Ann SMITH in Sible Hedingham, Essex Co., England 13 Jan 1619-20, and baptismal records show they had the following children: Samuel Jr. bapt. 10 Apr 1622; Arthur bapt. 28 Dec 1623, died in England; William bapt. 27 Aug 1626, died in England; Jespheff (=Joseph) bapt. 28 Feb 1629/30; and Sidreake (=Shadrach ) bapt 6 Sep 1631. Author does not believe Samuel ever spelled his name "Wildbore" - it was WILBORE; also disputes that Samuel was b. 1585, the previously accepted date. Nicholas did not marry Elizabeth until 1595 or 1596, so Samuel was born between 1595 and 1600, making him 33-38 when he sailed for America. He was living in Sible Hedingham at that time because Shadrach was baptized there shortly before they sailed. __________________________________ Pre-owned Genealogy, History and Natural History Books: http://www.netcom.com/~symbios/genbooks.html
