Hi all. Looks like I need to give some guidelines on how to submit information. 1. I can't post copyrighted material unless you hold the copyright or you received permission from the copyright holder (of which I need to get a copy of the written permission for legal purposes). What I suggest if you want to submit information that has been copyrighted, like in a book, is to take what is relevant to the site and put it in your own words and then let me know where the info came from. What I can then do is to put a link to the copyrighted material (if available online) in the sources section. Remember, photos in a copyrighted book are also considered copyrighted. 2. No gedcomes for your genealogy line. Take a look at the following pages to get a better idea: http://bradford.gendepository.com/biographies/bradbio.html - by individual http://barringer.gendepository.com/biographies/bio1.html - by individual http://black.gendepository.com/biographies/minibios.html - by individual http://bradford.gendepository.com/genealogies/richbradford.htm - by family line http://bradford.gendepository.com/genealogies/bradtn.html - by location http://bradford.gendepository.com/genealogies/bradal.html - by location http://black.gendepository.com/genealogies/ncsclines.html - by location As you can see, these are all different in format, so basically the format is up to you, but no gedcoms. You can do it like an genealogy report, in a story format, or just the facts written out. That part doesn't matter. 3. If you have pictures to submit, that's great! But when it comes to images of documents, please send a transcription as well as the document. The reason for this is that text-to-speech programs used by the visually impaired can't read and image. Unfortunately, with school, I don't have the time to do a transcription myself. If you have an image of a document and don't have time to transcribe it either, go ahead and send the image and I'll look for a volunteer to transcribe. 4. Submit your links if you wish. If you have a website that is relevant to the site, I can add a link to it (and hope you would do the same). That's it for now. 1/2 of the website is now up (Barringer, Black, Bradford, and Coventry) and I expect to get Eller up this afternoon. I'll have to stop working on it after tonight until later next week because of finals, but it's almost ready! I'll send out a final email to all when the whole site is up. Here are the links to the different surname sections. You can go to any section and see if it's up. If it's not, you will get a page that says to come back later. If that is the case, just check back periodically: http://www.gendepository.com (down right now, will be the last to be added) http://barringer.gendepository.com http://black.gendepository.com http://bradford.gendepository.com http://coventry.gendepository.com http://eller.gendepository.com http://hackett.gendepository.com http://hupp.gendepository.com http://kern.gendepository.com Erin ===== Erin Bradford eabradfo@yahoo.com List manager http://www.usgennet.org/usa/nc/county/cabarrus/ http://www.usgennet.org/usa/nc/county/mecklenburg/ ALHN County Coordinator for Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Cos, NC http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~kshai (Current site for the Genealogy Depository) http://www.gendpository.com (Future site for the Genealogy Deository-coming in May!)

Surnames: Bradford Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3YF.2ACIB/1731 Message Board Post: SHAKING THE FAMILY TREE.................... BRADFORD males needed for Family Tree DNA We have been fortunate to receive a Grant to start a Bradford Family DNA project. The immediate focus will be to start with at least one representative of the primary lines: Plymouth, MA, Philadelphia, PA, Maryland, Accomack Co., VA, Charles City Co., VA, Fauquier Co., VA and others. This would give us a firm base. The toughest part of starting a DNA project is to obtain enough results to have meaning, thus the reason for the grant is to give us a database of perhaps 10 individuals. After that it will be up to individuals to purchase their own kit. The Details: 1) sign up 2) send lineage, physical address 3) receive kit 4) return kit 5) wait for results. Pricing after the first ten sign-ups, which will be a 12-marker test (or before if you choose): 12 marker Y-DNA test $99: 25 Marker Upgrade $90: 25 Marker Y-DNA test $169. (+ Postage) The website: http://www.familytreedna.com has answers to your questions, as well as explanatory notes. THE PACE SOCIETY's DNA project can be found at: http://pacesociety.org/DNA/. Click on Results. All is not as thought and it is really interesting, several different Virginia lines. On the concern of giving up your DNA - if your insurance person took a swab of your cheek or drew blood, it's a done deal. If you were born after about 1960+ in a hospital, it's a done deal. In numerous ways, it's a done deal. This is secure in that it uses a numbering system - all is explained on the site. The kit comes to you and you return it, the results come to you and to the Project Administrator for analysis and to build family groups. Unfortunately only Bradford direct male descendants are eligible. The ultimate would be to start with individuals who have an idea of their family five or so generations back. The most recent generations would not be used as an identifier. It isn't necessary to have a 'proven' lineage. Representatives of the 'PRIMARY' lines mentioned above are needed to anchor this Project in order for others to add roots to their tree. As the Project increases it is entirely possible to expand the study to identify the areas of origin of our ancestors across the sea, another reason for a substantial base of primary lines. The purpose of the Project would be to identify 'Family Groups' and the common ancestor of each. The Y chromosome is passed from father to son unchanged, except for a mutation about every 500 generations. With the 12 marker DNA results, the numbers can be compared and family groups designated. The conclusions will be available for the benefit of all. If you have an interest or know a Bradford male who would be interested in participating, use the below addresses to sign up or query. bradford222@comcast.net Becky Mosely, Project Coordinator THE BRADFORD PROJECT Together we can tear down those 'Brick Walls' ! Participate by passing this information on to all Bradfords REMEMBER, DNA is the Gene in Gene..alogy!
Hello all! The new Bradford site is up and ready to use! The address for the new site is bradford.gendepository.com. The main depository page is www.gendepository.com, but the bradford section is the only one online right now, so you can just go directly. Please be aware that I may be changing things in the future, so if you bookmark a page, it may change in a month or so! My Dad was in the hospital recently. When the nurse came in to admit him, she saw the last name, and said that her maiden name was Bradford. We started talking, and we wondered if we might be from the same Bradford line. I got some information from her, and checked it out in the Vance Arthur Bradford book "Bradford Descendants". I can not locate any of the names she gave me in this book. I know that there are some holes in the book for the Bradfords that moved into Arkansas. and Texas. Her line may be in one of these holes. The information she gave me is as follows: My dad is Jimmy Dale Bradford born 10/28/53 in Warren, AR his brother is Johnny Randall Bradford born 11-12-50 also in Warren. Their dad was John Junior Bradford born 7-5-23 he passed away 04-2-98 I'm not sure which town in AR he was born but I will find out. He had a brother named Ed Bradford. My grandfather's dad was Bryant Bradford also born in AR some time in the 1890's my grandma Dorthy Bradford is going to get some more info on that. He( Bryant) had a brother named Buff Bradford, I'm not sure if Buff was his real name or a nickname? If anyone might have information on this line of Bradfords, I would be interested in looking at it, and then I can pass it on to Brooke Ann Bradford-Young. Thanks. Robert M. "Mike" and Joanne Bradford Nampa, Idaho. rmbrad@velocitus.net
Hi all! Inspiration hit me just now! As you know, the new website will be up and running in about a month. In the meantime, I just thought of something that I would love to add to the page, but I need all your help. If you're interested and/or have the time, why not write up your family history. Maybe a personal story you've heard about one of your ancestors (surnames relating to Barringer, Black, Bradford, Coventry, Eller, Hackett, Hupp, or Kern) or just a run down of who your ancestors (of those surnames are) in a text file. I have a few of these files already for Bradford and Hackett, but not really for the other surnames. What a great way to let everyone know what lines you are researching and what information you have! If you decide to do this, be sure to include your sources in the write up somehow, as end notes or something. Many people are wary of genealogy info on the internet without sources cited (for good reason), so include your sources to make it more reliable. If you don't have a source, that's fine, but cite them where you can. You can send these to me either via the lists or to me personally. If you send them to the list, make sure to note it's ok to post on the website. Also be sure to include contact information (just your name and permanent email is fine, no address necessary). Thanks all and good luck! Let's find those ancestors!
