No doubt Martin was the son of Henry Martin Bradford (born 1831 in Tennessee, died 18 May 1906 in Oklahoma) and Emma Chitty or Cheatem (born 24 Jun 1824, died Jul 1921 in Oklahoma). Emma was born in Mississippi, per some census records, or Virginia, according to her obituary. Henry and Emma Bradford were buried in Reese Cemetery, Adair County, Oklahoma. Henry Martin Bradford, a blacksmith, was the son of James Martin Bradford, also a blacksmith, born 1791 in North Carolina and died 1871 in Dade County, Georgia.

When he married Elizabeth Cline in 1888, he said he was born in the Indian Territory. In the 1900 Census of the Indian Territory ( in what became Adiar Co) he was boarding just down the road from his wife and children and claiming to be born in MO In the 1910 census, he is in Craig Co, with a much younger wife and claiming to be born in TN. Her name is Carrie In the 1920 census he is back in Adair Co with Carrie claiming that this is his 1st marriage. He says he is born in TN as were both his parents. I haven't looked up 1930 yet. From the data you gave me this could be a match. I really look forward to hearing from you.

Bradford in my database who was born about 1866 in Georgia. His parents moved around, from Tennessee to Georgia and Missouri, but settled in Indian Territory before 1886. There's a good chance we might find a connection. Do you know where your family was living in 1900 (or later) when the census was taken? I'm not far enough along in my research to have these records for the Martin J. in my database.

    1. NC Bradford marriages
    2. Erin Bradford
    3. Hi all! Remember a few months ago me asking for people to send me their Bradford lines from NC? Well, as I've been working on that database and trying to sort out families, an idea hit me. Why not try to verify the marriages with marriage records at the archives in Raleigh (Where I live)?? So that's what I did. I now have entered marriage record info (county, date, bond # if available, witnesses, bondsman, etc.) into the database so if you have a Bradford ancestor from NC, send me an email and I'll look it up in the database. The only info that is available for every single record is the county where the marriage bond was file or wedding took place. Almost all give a date, this is usually the date of the bond, not necessarily the marriage day itself, althought the marriage was usually pretty close to the bond date. I think there were 2 or 3 without the date, only the county was given. Most give the witness and bondsman. Some give the ministers who preformed the weddings. About the database I have, i don't have all the lines sorted out. what I'm trying to do is find sources for individuals who were submitted to me. Some of these are birth, some death, some are names found in county history books, such as Early Families of Edgecombe County that was compiled in 1920 by the Tarboro genealogy society. With this being my last year of school, I don't know how much time I'll be able to work on this and how long it's going to take me, but any of you are always free to ask me to lookup an NC Bradford or submit info (cite your sources if you have them - it saves me from finding a source). What I hope to do eventually is put that information on the website, but that could be a while before something like that is done, and if you don't want me to do that with info you submitted, that is fine. When you submit something, I make a note in the sources who submitted it so I will take out anything with your name/email in the sources, and also when I get closer to getting the database "done" (is genealogy ever done?!?!? hehe), I'll email everyone who submitted info so they have an opportunity to tell me not to put theirs up. I'm guessing that this won't be close to finished before I graduate in May, so no rush.
