    1. [BRACKNEY]Notice about Rootsweb Lists
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. This has been received from the Rootsweb administration: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. Sincerely, The RootsWeb team If anyone has an interest in finding alternative communication possibilities and/or suggestions for alternatives, please send a note to the list to that effect ASAP. With heavy hearts, Jim and Di

    1. [BRACKNEY]Help Keep This List Active
    2. Jim Jackson
    3. We just wanted to encourage you all to make use of this list in your family searches. A large number of Rootsweb lists have been made inactive due to no messages over a period of time. We want to keep as many lists active as we possibly can and your participation will help toward that goal. If you have a "brick wall" in your family search, send in a message with as much information as you have and let's see if someone may be able to help fill in those blanks. Best wishes,

    1. Irish?
    2. Kurt Pickering
    3. While visiting my aunt the day after St. Patrick's Day, I mentioned jokingly (although truthfully) that I am 1/256 Irish. She said, "You're more than that!" "What?" "The Brackneys - they were PURE Irish!" Well, I do indeed have Brackneys, the last born with the surname being my mother's mother's mother's mother: Mary "Polly" Brackney b c1821, OH (prob Greene Co) m Jefferson Shiflett 29 APR 1840, Allen Co, OH d by 1880 (presumed from absence with Jefferson in census) her father, Reuben Brackney (veteran, War of 1812) b 7 DEC 1787, Rockingham Co, VA m Susannah "Sarah" Ary 2 FEB 1813, Rockingham Co, VA d 20 FEB 1867, Union Twp, Auglaize Co, OH Information I culled, in whole, from another family geneaolgist when I was too young and naive to ask for sources takes the pedigree to places I no longer trust - especially since it leads to England, not Ireland. However, for clue value: John Brackney b 1762 m Elizabeth OR Hannah Kitchen, 1785, Pennsylvania d aft 1787 John Brackney b UNK m Mary Cheeseman 23 FEB 1758, Haddonfield, Camden Co, NJ d UNK Matthias Brackney b 1693, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, ENG m Frances Denman Andrews bef 1723, ENG d 1746, Burlington, Chester Co, NJ Matthias Brackney b c1665 m Elizabeth d UNK Seems to me I've seen reference to a letter somewhere in which a Brackney wrote of a grandmother whose maiden name was McClinitis (which I believe to be McClintic, misspelled or misread). THAT would be Irish, anyway. Anyone able to supplement or correct any of this? Researching these 8 greats: Pickering-Snyder-Roach-Teegardin-Hodges-Evans-Kantner-Shifflet + these contributing Kantner/Shifflet lines: Huttes-Brackney-Bechdolt-Cierees-Self-Ary-Fey/Feit And, of course, many more!
