BUT which one? He can descend from William or Alexander but he can not descend from both on only the male side... Nelda, did this show up on a GEDCOM? If so, it just means that whoever entered the data entered the names at different times and entered Alice Ann's maiden name at one time but not the other time. Also, George's middle name was entered one time and not another. If it is in a GEDCOM, the only person who can correct it is the person who entered the data, and doing a merge is the way to correct it. These errors do not show up until a print-out is done or you see it online. I had a similar problem in my GEDCOM of which the first generations are shown on my L-39. My great-grandfather James Lewis Beatty appears to have married a second time to the same woman. It was just my error when I entered the name. I might not have entered the birth date or birth place correctly, and the merge feature did not catch it, that I have Anna Maria Wilcox's name as 1st wife and 2nd wife.
