In June of 1895 Mary Beatty applied for a Widow's Pension stating her husband, Harvey Beatty had served in the "Florida War" in 1838. She states that Harvey was born in Tennessee and lived in Carroll County, Missouri all his life. They were married on March 2, 1854 at the residence of and by Rev James M. Goodson, a Baptist Minister and her name was Mary Sproul. Harvey had been previously married to Eliza Campbell who died July 6, 1853. Harvey died on the 8th of Feb. 1878 in Carroll County, Missouri and she did not remarry. Her husband was issued a land warrant (#17618). Harvey Beattie was a private in Capt. Sconce's Company of the 1st Regiment of Missouri Mounted Volunteers. He enlisted Sept. 28, 1837 and was discharged March 18, 1838. James H. Minnis states in 1895: "Harvey Beatty lived on his farm in the same place he died from 1850 to his death. He was never known by any Sir name than Beatty, he may have spelt his name Beaty...." William B. Templeman states in 1895: "Eliza Beatty first wife of Harvey Beatty died I don't know exactly how long before he married his second wife. I know she was dead before he remarried I lived with my father about one half mile from Harvey Beatty. I also helped to remove the body of Mrs. Eliza Beatty from where she was buried first to another grave yard after that..." J. C. Cooper states that Harvey Beatty died Feb. 4, 1877. He states he was the attending physician in the last illness of Harvey Beatty William C. Sproul states in 1898 that "I have lived within 5 or 6 miles of the family all of the time...". Several other neighbors give affidavits concerning the marriage of the couple and the death of Harvey and his first wife. Mary Beatty died on October 22, 1914 and Letters of Administration from the State of Colorado, County of Otero naming John C. Vroman administrator of her estate are in the file.
