I found a record for a John A. Baty who served in the Union Army from the state of Alabama. He served in "G" 1st Alabama Cav and filed a pension on his service from TX in 1897. I will probably copy this pension. I copied his service record yesterday and it has a few interesting facts: John A. Baty enlisted at Morresville, Alabama. He stated that he was born in Poland County, Georgia and that he was 18 years old. He enlisted in April 24, 1864. He was 5 feet 4 1/2 inches with a fair complexion, blue eyes and dark hair. He lists his occupation as farmer. In July 1864 a service card states "absent sick at Rome Georgia since July 8, 1864." Does anyone recognize this man? The only other Baty of any spelling listed as a Union soldier from Alabama was William T. Baty (also Batty & Battey) who served in "B" 1 Cav, Ala. He was born in Rome, Georgia. He enlisted at Decatur, Alabama in April of 1864. He states his residence as Morgan County, Alabama (home of L252). He was 5 feet 6 inches, his complexion fair and his eyes blue. He was captured March 10, 1865 at Solomon Grove, NC. I do not think he is related to L252. Laurel Baty, L252
