    2. I have to say thank you publicly to Laurel. The Mexican war Pension file she sent me was very interesting. Sad what these Widows had to go through to get $8 a month. Sarah Beattie L 107

    3. I agree with you, Sarah, that Laurel has done wonderful work. Thank you Laurel for passing it on to us. Also, I praise Donna VanZandt and the other researchers who have worked relentlessly. Lois (Griffes) Kortering My great-great-grandparents of Lineage 39: James Lewis Beatty IV: b. 20 Nov. 1819, Stark Co., OH m. 14 Dec. 1840, Mercer Co., OH to: Ann Maria Wilcox James: d. 17 Oct. 1888, South Bend, St. Joseph Co., OH in County Poorhouse buried 19 Oct. 1888, Woodlawn Cem., Walkerton, St. Joseph Co., IN Civil War: 3 years, Co. B, 123 Indiana Infantry; was with General Sherman in march from Atlanta to the Sea Ann Maria: b. 26 Feb. 1824, Walkerton, St. Joseph Co., IN, or as son William Henry Beat(y) family believed, she was born in VA. d. 19 Mar. 1874, Chesterton, Porter Co., IN. Very recently, I requested for the second time a marriage record from Celina, Mercer Co., OH, because the one I received two years ago still did not look complete, because it was a narrow strip of paper, and the sealed page appeared to have something torn off the bottom. The first one I received two years ago must have been an intention of marriage, or the license, which was obtained 11 Dec. 1840. Here is the new information about the marriage of James Lewis Beatty/Beaty and Ann Maria Wilcox/Willcox: Witnesses: (Beautiful handwriting but a bit fancy!!) Halabuud/Halabund H.Willcox Jemima/Jennie/Jeanine/Jenivieve or Jeniue J. Willcox Jane Willcox. Just below witness names: "On this 14th day of Dec. 1840, come James Beaty and being sworn saith that he saw (Hallabou or Hallaboo) Wilcox sign the within and signed the same as witness. James L. Beaty, No. 64, Sworn to and subscribed before me. J.W. Riley, Clerk." According to our family history, James Lewis Beatty/Beaty was the first-born of seven sons and unknown number of daughters, but we have found no documentation of this. Supposedly, five of the sons died in battle and were buried at the bottom of Lookout Mountain in the National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee. So, only two sons and unknown number of daughters survived, but there might have been survivors in the families of the five sons. Children of James L. and Ann Maria (Wilcox) Beatty/Beaty: 1. Harriet: b. 1843, probably Walkerton, St. Joseph Co., IN., d. at 27 years 2. Elizabeth Ann "Lydia/Liddy": b. 1846, Walkerton, m. Edward Martin Clements, 11 children. 3. William Henry: b. 1850, Bloomington, McLean Co., IL, m. Mary Jane Gould, 13 children. 4. George, b. 1852, Bloomington, McLean Co., IL, d. age 41, no marriage or children. *5. John Clinton, b. 15 Apr. 1853, Bloomington, d. 07 July, 1937, Emmet Twp., Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., MI, m. 20 July 1880, Sarah Jane "Jennie) Haggerty, 12 children, 6 sons, 6 daughters, my grandmother Edith Beatty was 5th-born, and she married Winfield McDonald. 6. James, b. 1857, Bloomington, drowned in 1875. 7. Edward B., twin to Edwin, b. 17 Aug. 1860, LaPorte, IN, d. 16 Apr. 1946, Muskegon Heights, Muskegon Co., MI, never married. 8. Edwin, twin to Edward B., b. 17 Aug. 1860, LaPorte, IN, d. at 16 years from Spinal Meningitis. Happy New Year to all of our Beatty, Beaty cousins! 3. Thank you but I don't deserve it for doing something I love. It's not work. Hats off to the ones who do the really boring behind the scenes slavery Mike, Ray and the rest of you. Thank you for for the hours you spend with the boring mundane stuff that keeps BP2000 running so smoothly and our site the best.
