Wallace H. Stub Beatty Wakonda 11/30/03 Sioux Falls Argus Leader, Sioux Falls, SD, on-line Wakonda - Wallace H. "Stub" Beatty, 99, of Volin, SD died Friday, November 28, 2003 at Wakonda Heritage Manor in Wakonda, SD. He was born in Elrod, SD on September 26, 1904 to Robert H. & Martha I.(Fuller) Beatty.He graduated from the SDSU School of Agriculture in Brookings, SD in 1923.He farmed with his father in Clark, SD until 1929.Wallace attained his barber's license in 1928 and began barbering full time in Centerville, SD in 1930. Wallace married the late Esther Nelson on August 16, 1936 at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church in Westerville, SD, northwest of Vermillion, SD.Together they operated a barber and beauty business in Centerville until 1947, when they moved to Wakonda. Esther kept a beauty shop and Wallace farmed and raised registered Polled Herefords. Wallace was a member of Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church and also a member of the Myrtle Masonic Lodge #91 of Centerville. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl, (Robert) Nagy, of Mission, TX, and a son Wayne, (Susan) of Volin, SD; two granddaughters, Sarah and Megan, and one grandson, Christopher; two sisters, Audrey Beatty of Colorado Springs, CO and Connie Smith, of Sheridan, WY.Wallace was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Esther, and three brothers: Richard, George and Neil; and one sister, Hazel. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church in Westerville.Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery, rural Wakonda, SD.A Masonic prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm Monday, December 1, at the Hansen Funeral Home in Irene.
