In 1887 James Beaty of Anoka, Anoka county, Minnesota states that he is the same James Beaty who was a Private in Capt. George Cook's Company of the 4th Regiment of Kentucky Volunteers commanded by John S. Williams. He enlisted at Louisville, Kentucky on or about the 5th of November 1847 and was discharged at Louisville in July of 1848. He states he is 65 and was born in Washington, PA on March 30, 1821. He states he is dependent on his two sons living in Anoka, Minn. His wife's name is Diantha Shumway and he was married at Orange, Ohio on June 15, 1856 and his wife is still living (on another form he states that his marriage certificate was destroyed by fire). Since his discharge he has lived at Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio and California until 1856 since which time I have lived in Minnesota except while in the service of the United States in "the War of the Rebellion as a member of the 4th Regt; Minn. Vols." John P. Austin of Anoka, Minn. states that he has known "J. Beatty" for 55 years. he further states "I received from said Beaty a letter dated at Mexico during the time of the Mexican War and while he was in the US Service....Having been personally acquainted with him for 55 years and when first acquainted with said Beaty he was a boy about 10 years of age." In 1891--R. A. Fitch states that he is well acquainted with claimant "John S. Beaty" and "the said John S. Beaty is the identical person who is claiming a Mexican pension uunder the name of James Beaty." In 1891 Judge W. W.Fitch (Judge of the Municipal Court of Anoka) states he has "executed from time to time, claimants vouchers for pension for services in the Mexican war under the name of "James Beaty" claimants true name is John S. Beaty but, through some clerical error or otherwise, his name appears on the Mexican War records as James Beaty...." John S. Beaty states his children as: Alvah Francis born Feb 15, 1860 Arthur O (A?) born October 21, 1868 There is a special Act of Senate and House of Representatives that increases John S.
