    3. In 1897 John A. Baty is 49 and living in Deport, Lamar County Texas. John states his wife's name was Dician Lizzie Beath Poteet and they married Set. 20, 1867 in Henderson County, Tennessee. He lists his children: James Wiley Oct. 14, 68 Martha Angline May 26 70 Rody Annie Jan 72 Laura Millie Viney Jan. 26, 74 Freedonie LizzieBeath Sept. 20, 76 Mary Rebecca March 29, 79 Elnora June 12, 1886 He states that his only wife died March 30 1867 (must be 1887) in Deport, Tx. In 1900 John A. Baty is 53 and living in Red River County Texas. He states he enrolled at Mooresville, Alabama on the 24th of April 1864 as a private in Co "G" 1st Regiment Alabama Volunteer Cavalry and was discharged at Huntsville, Ala. on October 20, 1865. He states that he was 17 when he enrolled and 5 ft 6 inches, dark complexion, dark hair, blue eyes. In 1909 John A. Baty is living near Deport, Lamar county, Texas. He lists his place of residence since his service as: Alabama from Alabama to Tenn. in 1867 From Tenn. to Texas in 1880. In 1911 John A. Baty states that he was 16 when he enlisted. That he was hospitalized about 3 or 4 weeks at Rome, GA. Names comrades during the war as George Gilbreath & Pink Flanagan. Mellie Baty is a witness on this document. In 1914 John A. Baty is a resident of Detroit, Red River, Texas and is 66 years old. He states he has lived in Alabama, Tennessee and Texas since his service. There is a letter stating "John A. Baty has no record of his birth he ses his father died when he was small and he lived with his mother until 1864 he joined the armey and served till the end of the War and have not bin with any of his people since he ses that it has bin his information that he was born November 17 = 1847." This is dated Feb. 1914. In June of 1915 John A. Baty states that his wife's name was Dician Lizzie Bethe Pertiate (this writing is hard to read) and was married in Tennessee on Sept. 1, 1867 by Rev. Denison. He states that his wife has been dead 28 years. He lists his children: James W. Baty born Oct. 14, 1868 Marthy Baty born May 22, 1870 Annie Baty born Jan. 24, 1872 Beckie Baty born Feb. 2, 1879 Mellie Baty born Sept. 6, 1874 Dovie (Donie?) Baty born Feb. 4, 1876 Elnora Baty born June 5, 1887 In February of 1921 John A. Baty is living in Sulphur, Murray County Oklahoma and files an application for Pension for service in the Civil War (Union). He states he enrolled at Athens, Alabama under the name of John A. Baty in 1864 and was a private in Co. "G" 1 regiment, of the Alabama Cavalry. He was discharged at Decatur, Alabama in the fall of 1865. He states he was 5 ft 6 ins with a light complexion, blue eyes and dark hair. He was born in Georgia November 17, 1847. He states that he has lived in Texas and Oklahoma since the war.
