Cumberland co., PA Orphans Court Microfilm # 0021022 (dvz) (indexed only by name of estate or administrator) Vol. 2 1761-1786 (excerpts) Orphan's Court, Carlisle, Cumberland co., PA -20 August 1765 Came into court James Beaty, a minor son of John Beaty, late of Cumberland county, deceased, and prayeth the court that John Kinkead may be appointed guardian over his person and estate during his minority. The court to considers and appoints the said John Kinkead guardian over the person and estate of the said James Beaty during his minority. Upon reading the petition of James Beaty, eldest son of John Beaty, late of Bedford in the county of Cumberland, deceased, setting forth that the petitioner's late father, the said John Beaty, lately died intestate seized and possessed of a certain inprovement and tract of land near Bedford aforesaid containing about 300 acres, leaving a widow and six children. That the petitioner is desirous & willing to hold and possess the said improvement and tract of land and pay the younger children their respective shares according to the act of assembly of this province in that case and prayeth the court to appoint proper persons to value and appraise the sd. improvement and tract of land if they find the same cannot be divided to and among all the children of the sd. deceased without injury to and spoiling the whole .........The court appoints Barnard Dougherty, George Woods, Christopher Limes, John Frasier, Samuel Drennard, Graves? Pendergraf, Sen'r. or any four to view and see if the tract can be divided without spoiling the whole. That they then value and appraise the same and make report to the next orphan's court.
