In 1887 Adam Beaty lives in Alpine, San Diego County, California and applies for a pension for his Mexican War service. He states that he was born at Fort Gibson, Arkansas on Feb. 17, 1821. He enlisted at Ellis County, TX in May 1845 and was discharged at Monterey in October of 1845. He resided in Ellis County, TX until 1869 and since then in San Diego County, CA. He served as a private in Captain Chandler's Company of the 1st Texas Mounted Volunteers. There is a list of property owned in San Diego, CA in 1893--they owned about 160 acres known as a "Bee Ranch". Adam died May 1, 1903 and his widow Caroline A. Beaty applied for a pension. She states that she was married to Adam on Sept. 24, 1863 at Milford, Ellis Co. Texas, by Valentine Sevier, J. P. (a certified copy of the marriage record is in this file). Her name before marriage was Caroline Cureton. Her maiden name was Johnson. She married Thos Cureton who was killed in the "Cotton Plant" fight on the 7th of July 1862. Her first husband's Captain was J. C. Brown Co E Parsons Regiment 12th Texas Cavalry. She was born Dec. 29, 1837. There is a letter from E. Beaty, Lusk(?) Throckmorton County, Texas, written in 1904, in which he states "Adam Beaty was my brother..Adam Beaty and Caroline Cureton was married in the County of Ellis State of Texas and lived on my farm in Ellis county, Texas." Caroline was dropped from the Pension rolls because of her death, Dec. 28, 1911. This file is 71 pages long.
