    3. Indian War Pension: In 1912 Daniel C. Beaty of Olympia, Thurston County Washington states that he is 83 years old and was born Dec. 1, 1828 at Urbana, Ohio. At the time of his enlistment he was 5 feet 8 inches, light complexion, grey eyes and light hair and he was a cabinet maker. He was a Sergeant in Co "C" Capt B. L. Hennesss, 2nd Regiment of Washington Territory Volunteers in the Indian Wars. He enlisted Feb. 1, 1856 in Olympia and was discharged in Sept. 1856 at the same place. Since his enlistment he lived at Seattle Washington 1 year; Olympia Wash. 1 year; Salem Oregon 3 years; Olympia Washington 1 year; Seattle Wash. 9 months; and Olympia Wash. since that time. There is another application dated 1902 with similar information. This application also states that his wife's name is Mary J. Thompson whom he married on Dec. 16, 1856 at Olympia, Washington; she is still living at this date. He gives his place of birth as Champin County, Ohio. In another form Daniel gives his wife's name as Mary Joanna Thompson and the name of the minister as Rev. George Frederick Whitworth. He states "we are still living most happily together." He states their only child was Sarah Adelaide Beaty, born April 10, 1856. Another form filled out by Daniel in 1902 gives his place of birth as Champaign County, Ohio. In this form his full name is given as Daniel Crane Beaty. Oliver P. Platter of Baker City, Oregon states that he has known Daniel for 47 years and served with him in the Indian Wars. A letter from Daniel's daughter, Adelaide Beaty, dated Jan. 29th, 1919 states "I have the sad duty to inform you of the death, January 12th 1919, of Daniel C. Beaty an Indian War survivor..." She includes a copy of his death certificate. Daniel's death certificate gives the name of his father as John Beaty, born in Kentucky and his mother as Joanna Valentine born in New Jersey. He was buried at I. O. O. F. cemetery in Olympia, Washington. Mary J. Beaty applies for a widow's pension in 1919. She states she was married by Rev. Geo. F. Whitworth. F. H. Whitworth, George Whitworth's son, states that he was present at the marriage ceremony of Mary and Daniel and that Mary J. Thomson had been a member of his family the preceding 3 years. Cassandra Eckler George was also a member of this household and was present at the marriage. A letter from Miss S. A. Beaty dated Oct. 17th 1919 states "It is my sorrowful duty to inform you of the death of my mother Mrs. Mary J. Beaty....Oct. 16, 1919." This file is 42 pages long. Laurel Baty, L252
