James Beatty is a resident of Louisville, Jefferson County, KY in 1889. He states he was "one of the principal musicians in the company commanded by Timothy Keating in the 4th regiment of Kentucky Volunteer Infantry commanded by Col. John S. Williams in the War with Mexico." he enlisted at Louisville, Kentucky on the 4th of October 1847 and was discharged at Louisville in July of 1848 (and was afterwards transferred and mustered as one of the principal musicians of the Field and staff of the 4th Ky Volunteer Infantry). He states that he is "in my 60th year of age having been born at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on the 10th day of August, 1829." He is not married. W. E.
