In 1888 James C. Beatie, a resident of Livingston, Park county, Territory of Montana states that he was a private in W. P. Walton's Company in the 1st Regiment of Missouri Mounted Volunteers in the War with Mexico. He enlisted at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas in June 1846 and was discharged at New Orleans in June 1847. He states that he is 62 and was born at Seven Mile Ford, Washington County, Virginia, August 17, 1825. Since his discharge he has lived at Livingston, Park County, Montana Territory. A doctor, David B. Perry states that James is disabled "...He has been engaged in stock raising and about four years ago he was attacked and injured by a bull..." John C. Caldwell of Park, Territory of Montana states "I have known him seventeen or eighteen years..." A number of other neighbors and several doctors testify as to his disability and character. James was dropped from the Pension rolls because of death; his last pension payment was $12 and was paid through Sept. 1895.
