>From "Western Weekly Review" May 3, 1844 A most cruel murder was committed on the 22d ult. in Madison County, on the body of a son of Mr. James W. Haley about 16 years of age, by a negro woman. He was beaten to death with a hoe, his throat cut, and then dragged to the woods and buried under a parcel of leaves --- He was found on the same day by his mother. The negro escaped. L. Baty
