    3. Baty, Joseph P., Private Stells and Ellis Co Ga Vols.; Widow Martha C., filed in 1895 in AL. COPIED 1895--Martha C. Baty is 71 and living in Dodsonville, Jackson Co AL. She is the widow of Joseph Perry (Terry?) Baty. She states that Joseph died in 1855 in Van Buran, DeKalb CO AL. Her maiden name was Martha Caroline Roderic and she was married Jan. 1, 1842 in Knoxville, TN. Her husband was 20 years old when he entered the service in 1835. William Baty, age 49 residing at Scottsboro, AL and John Milton Baty age 13 residing at Dodsonville appear as witnesses. "We are the son and grandson of applicant and have known her all our lives." Martha states her husband resided in Pike Co., GA near Griffin also in Dekalb Co GA. "That he could write. He never spelled his name otherwise than Baty." There is a torn out section of a Bible entry with the marriage of Joseph and Martha C. marked "To be returned." The muster rolls show Joseph P. Bata enrolled and also Joseph P. Baity. William E. Baty states "I am the son of Joseph P. and Martha C. Baty. I was ten years old when my father died. I can recollect him well...He died in the Spring of 1856." Elizabeth Baty states "I am the daughter-in-law of Joseph P. and Martha C. Baty. I was married after the death of Mr. Baty." William D. Coker, aged 62, a resident of Collinsville, AL, states "Joseph P. Baty died at this place of residence and I was with him in his last sickness and helped bury him..." Laurel Baty, L252
