I suspect bits and pieces of all the following answer who John was. Does anyone recognize the following John Beatty? It is rather like a jigsaw puzzle at this point but I think he belongs to a lineage. Possibly a bro to L-126? and both may be sons of John of the pension for Rev. service. John Beatty (as he signed his name) was born August 12, 1763 (Old Style), in Donegal County, Ireland; the names of his parents are not shown. At the time of the Revolutionary War, he resided in Armagh Township, Cumberland County (later Mifflin County), Pennsylvania. John Beatty enlisted sometime in 1780 and served two months as private under Insign John Wilson in the Pennsylvania troops, engaged principally at Watson 's Fort; he enlisted in the summer of 1781, served as private in Captain John Boyd's Pennsylvania company, which company was commanded also by Lieutenant Richard Johnson, engaged most of the time against the Indians, near Bedford, Pennsylvania, and was discharged after service of seven months. To Edwin B Graham- See letter M in John Beatty - W 5803-I LL Pennsylvania, Mifflin County ss: Before me Francis Boggs of the justice of the peace in and for the county of Mifflin in the state of Pennsylvania personally came James McDowell a resident of Decatur? Township in the aforesaid county of Mifflin who being duly sworn in the deposed and say that he enlisted into the service of the United States in the Revolutionary War sometime in the summer of of the year 1781 in the township of Armagh in the county of Mifflin aforesaid (then Cumberland) under Lieutenant Richard Johnstone in Captain John Boyds company for a term of seven months- Deponers? Does not recollect whether this company belonged to the Pennsylvania line or the continental troops. That he joined the company on party at Browns Mills in said township of Armagh. And that he distinctly recollects that John Beatty the foregoing applicant for a pension was a soldier in said company and that he and deponent were suessmates?- Lieutenant Johnstone having come we were ordered forward by him and marched under Sergeant William Ward to Bedford Pennsylvania for the purpose of guarding the frontiers fro the Indians. Deponents fellow soldiers in this squad were the above named John Beatty, David Milliken, John Thompson, William Kankey and others. Before we arrived at Bedford our Captain John Boyd was taken prisoner by the Indians soon after we got to Bedford. We were joined by our Lieutenant John Johnstone- He was the only commissiord? Officer there- David Beats was first Sergeant and next in command to Lieut. Johnstone. There was a company of squad of militia or scouts at Bedford for a short time during our stay there- Deponent further saith that he was personally acquainted with the above named John Beatty before they entered the service that they have both resided in the same county ever since the close of the Revolutionary War that he is well acquainted with the said John Beatty and that be believes him to be a man of good moral character & worthy of credit & beliefs. Sworn & subscribed the 8 day of November Before I Francis Boggs before whom the above dessoition? Of James McDowell was taken do hereby certify that I am well acquainted with James McDowell the above deponent that he is reputed and believed in the neighborhood where by resides to have been a soldier of the Revolution & further I do hereby certify that he is a man of good moral character & worthy of credit and belief. August 11, 1923 Department of the Interior, bureau of Pensions Washington DC I write you requesting a statement of the military history of John Beatty- a soldier of the Revolutionary war who was seven years in the service- John Beatty was born in Ireland at one time his home was in Northumberland, Co. Penn. He died at Lancaster Ohio. Can you tell me in what Vol. And page his record is found and was a pension granted. Thanking you for any information you may give. Wilbur, El Dorado, Kana, RFD 4 Madam: I have to advise you that from the papers in the Revolutionary War Pension claim, S 22644 it appears that John Beatty was born in Donegal county, Ireland August 12, 1763, and while residing in Armagh township, Cumberland County (which was later Mifflin) Pennsylvania enlisted in 1780 and served two months as a private under Ensign John Wilson in the Pennsylvania troops. The summer of 1781, he enlisted and served seven months in Captain John Boyd's company. He was allowed pension on his application executed November 9, 1833, while a resident of Armagh Township, Pennsylvania. He died June 24, 1840. In 1842, soldier's widow is referred to, name not stated. Respectfully, (not signed) Commissioner. November 28, 1938, Mr. Edwin B. You state that one John Beatty came to America prior to the Revolutionary War and settled in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and that two of his children were Joseph and Samuel, Samuel having settled in Westmoreland County, where he married Margaret Lemmon. There is no claim for pension on file based upon service in the Revolutionary War of a John Beatty who was old enough to have been the father of Joseph Beaty (S. 35188) or of the Samuel Beatty (S. 34646) whose records were furnished you October 15, 1938 and May 29, 1937, respectively. The record has been found of a John Beatty (S. 22644) who emigrated to this country and of a John Beaty(W. 5803) of Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
