    3. This is the last Indian War Pension that I copied. If anyone else would like one of the pensions on the list copied let me know. Beaty, Francis; House’s Co AL Vols. Widow Martha, filed Jan 4, 1893 in AL COPIED (16 pages) 1892 -- Martha Beaty aged 68, residing near Alexander City, AL states that she is the widow of Francis Beaty who enlisted at LaFayette AL in May 1836. That her husband at the time of service was 23 years old, 5 feet 10 inches, blue eyes, light hair, fair complexion, a farmer, and born in Abeville, South Carolina. They resided near La Fayette for 20 years and at Alex City Ala until his death on Aug. 13, 1890. Her maiden name was Martha McCurley and they were married Dec. 17, 1857 in Chambers Co., AL. A certified copy of the marriage record is in this file. Martha was born Jan. 20, 1826. Joseph Morrison McCarley, 80 years old, and living in Coosa County AL knew Francis Beaty for 60 years and "I do know that Francis Beaty served in the Creek Indian War of 1836 -- he being a mess mate of mine..." Laurel Baty, L252 James Beaty, aged 76 and living in Alex City Ala, Tallapoosa Co AL "knows of his own knowledge that Francis Beaty did serve in said War." 1896 --W. M. Beaty requests that the Pension Department reimburse him for the burial expenses of Martha Beaty who "died at her home in Tallopoosa County County Alabama on the 22nd day of May 1896." [Obituary of Francis Beaty from the Alabama Christian Advocate: Thursday, October 2, 1890 FRANCIS BEATY was born in South Carolina, February 5, 1813; died at his home in Tallapoosa County, Ala., August 13, 1890. He moved with his father to Madison County, Ga., in 1826; came to Alabama in 1836, and settled in Chambers County. He joined the Presbyterian Church in 1837, and ever lived a consistent member of the same, and was a true patron of christianity. His pathway seem to continually glow with the presence of God. He was a Bible student; it seemed to be his delight. Bro. Beaty was afflicted for several years, but bore affliction with a christian spirit and was never know to murmur or complain, but was cheerful to the end. He was made a Mason in 1886; he ever proved himself worthy of the confidence of the brethren. Next to the church he prized his masonry, loving the mystic ties of the order as long as he lived, and being always prompt to the sound of the gavel. We loved him much; appreciated his presence; we shall miss him. He lived to see his children all grown and in the church. He leaves a wife, four children and many relatives and friends to mourn; but their loss is his gain. We hope to meet him again. After the funeral service was preached by the writer to a large audience, he was buried with the honors of the Masonic fraternity. H. I. DUPREE >From the Alabama Christian Advocate, July 23, 1896 BEATTY, MARTHA, daughter of William and Mary McCarley, was born in Anderson District, S. C., January 20, 1826; moved to Chambers county, Ala. in childhood, and joined the Presbyterian Church at about fifteen years of age. In 1857, she was married to Francis Beatty, and moved to Tallapoosa county, Ala., and in 1881 she united with the M. E. Church, South, at Flint Hill, where she was a consistent member until her death, which occurred May 22, 1896. Sister Beatty was reared by pious parents, and her training in childhood was seen in her after life in the growth and development of her many Christian virtues. She was a good woman, loved and respected by all who knew her. All loved “Aunt Martha.” She has left children and grandchildren, and a host of friends, who sustain a great loss in her death, but she has left them, as an inheritance, a life of consecration to God and his service. May God’s grace sustain the bereft until “we meet again.” --W. F. Herndon]

    3. I realized this Francis and James were in the War of 1812 Pensions too--at least I think this is L62; I haven't heard from these folks.....Perhaps the War of 1812 is the previous generation? The lineage 62 summary is very sparse. I copied this War of 1812 Pension file at the National Archives (19 pages): Beaty, James, Pvt., Capt. Tare’s Co., SC Mil, Dec. 10, 1813 – March 15, 1814; died Oct. 4, 1837, Chambers Co., AL. Widow: Margaret Milford, married Nov. 16, 1807, Pendleton, District, SC, 1850, 1855 Chambers Co Ala., 1871, Chambers Co., (PO Chambers C. H.) Ala.; died Aug. 8, 1876 or 1877. Excerpts: "Her husband was drafted in Abbeville district South Carolina on or about the 10th day of December AD 1813...She was married to the said James Beaty in Pendleton District, South Carolina on the 16th day of November AD 1807 by one James Crowder a Minister of the Gospel, of which no public or private record exists, and that her name before her marriage was Margaret Milford..." In further deposition by Philip P. Milford: "the deponent saw them [Margaret and James Beaty] married in Pendleton District South Carolina in the year 1808" Several other Beaty witnesses: Francis, Robert A., and John Beaty.
