The link below shows newspaper reports of the experiences of 111 Henderson Co., Illinois neighbors who went to California on two wagon trains from Oquawka, Illinois during the 1849 Gold Rush. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bbunce77/1849GoldRush.html There are two non-Beattys in the group who are likely related to lineage 112, Wm. F. Davis and Nathan H. Jamison. There are two Beatys, David and Ezra, mentioned in the story. We have no way of knowing if these two Beatys are related to L112. If you are researching Beattys in 1850 Illinois, this story might be of interest. Curt Beatty, L112
With the Pence there, also I think David Amos Beatty of L-179/190. There is an Ezra in that lineage also. His father William was of Henderson co., IL. & married Mary Pence. In his more about it says: quite limited, his training at farm labor was not meagre, for at an early age he began to follow the plow, and soon became familiar with farm work in all its departments. He continued under the parental roof until twenty-two years of age, when he began to earn his own livelihood by chopping wood and making rails. The following year he rented land, and then purchased eighty acres of land, a part of the farm on which he now resides, the purchase price being $200. There were no improvements upon the place, but he at once began its development and continued its cultivation until 1850, when he went to California, making the overland journey with ox-teams. There were seven teams in the party and twenty-eight men. They crossed the river at the site of the present city of Omaha, and after five months of travel reached Hangtown . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Curt Beatty" <c.beatty@earthlink.net> To: <BP2000-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 10, 2003 10:53 AM Subject: [BP2000] Beatys in The Gold Rush > The link below shows newspaper reports of the experiences of 111 > Henderson Co., Illinois neighbors who went to California on two wagon > trains from Oquawka, Illinois during the 1849 Gold Rush. > > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bbunce77/1849GoldRush.html > > There are two non-Beattys in the group who are likely related to lineage > 112, Wm. I received the mssg below from a visitor to my web page. Although we both have a "Martin Beatty/Beaty" in our ancestors, we appear to be unrelated. Can anyone help him with the limited information he has provided?
