George W. Beatty, Company "C" & "I" 110th Illinois Infantry, widow Sarah A. Beatty, Daniel Bain, Guardian (minor's certificate #199,607) On November 13, 1875 Sarah A. Baty aged 37 and a resident of Franklin County, Illinois filed a widow's claim for pension. She is the widow of George W. Beaty (both spellings Beaty and Baty are in this document) who was a Private in Company "C" in the 110th Illinois Infantry and who died near Benton, Illinois on May 12, 1873 of "Dropsy of the heart." Sarah A. Bosley was married to George W. Beaty on Nov. 10, 1861 at Franklin, Illinois; a copy of the marriage license is in the file. The following children survived George Beaty at his demise: Henry J. born March 28, 1866; Francis M. Beaty born March 30, 1868; Philip C. Beaty born Feb. 9, 1870; James W. Beaty born Dec. 8, 1871; all of the children were born in Franklin, Illinois. W. A. Beaty and W. W. Whittington are witnesses to Sarah Baty's signature. A copy of the marriage license of Sarah A. Beatty to Daniel Bain is in this file showing that they were married in Franklin County, Illinois on Dec. 23, 1875. Daniel Bain is appointed guardian of Henry J. Beatty, Francis M. Beatty, Phillip C. Beatty and James W. Beatty, minor heirs of George W. Beatty and applied for pension on their behalf on July 1, 1882. On June 30, 1882, Carrol Payne, late 1st Lieutenant of Co. "F" 110th Illinois Infantry states "said Beaty contracted the chronic diarrhea on the march from Louisville, Kentucky to Nashville, Tennessee in the month of October A. D. 1862 that said diarrhea was in my opinion caused by exposure on the march as aforesaid. That I was with the said Beaty on said march and know that he was exposed to great hardships in said march." Elias Warren aged 58 and a former neighbor and soldier in the same company as George Beatty gives a similar account of George Beatty's illness. He states "after their arrival in Nashville, Tennessee affiant and said soldier were together in the hospital and afterwards in convalescent camp." On June 30, 1882 Angeline Beatty states that she lived near neighbors to George and Sarah Beatty and attended Sarah at the birth of Henry J. Beatty and Phillip C. Beatty. Margaret Hill, aged 60 and a resident of Ewing Township, Franklin County, Illinois assisted at the birth of George W. Beaty on Oct. 9, 1862. Malinda Phillips, aged 76 and a resident of Benton County, Illinois assisted at the birth of Francis M. Beatty (March 30, 1868); James W. Beaty (Dec. 8, 1871); Sarah E. Beaty (December 30, 1873). On June 30, 1882, William A. Beatty, aged 48 and Angeline Beatty aged 45, both residents of Ewing Township, Franklin Co., Illinois state: "they were present at the burial of George W. Beatty Jr. and Sarah E. Beatty, children of George W. Beatty Se. and Sarah A. Beatty and that George W. Beatty Jr. died on the 1st day of September A. D. 1869 and Sarah E. Beatty died on the 21st day February A. D. 1874." Elizabeth A. Beaty and Daniel Bain are witnesses to this statement. Pension was granted to the minor heirs of George W. Beatty on March 20, 1883 and was retroactive to 12 May 1873. Pension of the minors terminated when they reached the age of 16. On August 25, 1908 Sarah Bain, aged 68 and a resident of Macedonia, Franklin Co., Illinois, applied for pension as a remarried widow. She states that Daniel Bain died on June 7, 1907. Laura M. Beaty and Henry Groves, both residents of Macedonia, Illinois, are witnesses to her signature. There is a copy of Daniel Bain's will in this file.
