    3. Jacob H. Beatty, Company "B" 8th Illinois Infantry, widow Mary E. Beatty (certificate # 390,470), guardian Mary Blake (minor's Certificate 390,471) On April 22, 1889 Jacob H. Beatty, aged 58 and a resident of Labette County, Kansas, applied for an Invalid Pension. He states that he enlisted on April 11, 1861 in Company "B" 8th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers and was discharged at Cairo, Illinois on June 24, 1861. He lists his disability as follows: "chronic gastric catarrh and chronic diarrhea and the sequaloe resulting therefrom. That he is now suffering from general disability. He has also suffered from disease of the kidneys since leaving the service." There is a Certificate of Disability For Discharge in this file. It states that Jacob Beatty was born in Bellfont, Pennsylvania and was 29 years old at his discharge, 5 feet 10 inches tall and had blue eyes and light hair. He was discharged because "said soldier has been unfit for duty by reason of a chronic diarrhea degenerating into a typhoid fever and general debility." On September 13, 1889 Mary E. Beatty, aged 45 and a resident of Labette, Kansas filed a widow's claim for pension. She states that Jacob Beatty died on May 12, 1889 at Labette County, Kansas. A copy of her marriage certificate is in the file showing that Mary E. Austin was married to Jacob H. Beatty on Nov. 18, 1862 at Decatur, Illinois. Mary Beatty states "Jacob H. Beatty had been married to Elizabeth R. Frazer and that she died Jan. 14, 1861." Two children under the age of 16 survived Jacob at his death: Anna H. Beatty born June 15, 1880 and Bertie B. Beatty born November 22, 1882. On Sept. 5, 1891, Elizabeth Beatty, aged 58 and a resident of Pana, Illinois, states "she was personally well acquainted with Jacob H. Beatty from 1857 to 1864.soon after his discharge he came to my house to board. He came home in very feeble health from the service suffering with chronic diarrhea.he boarded there about 12 months.he had frequent attacks of chronic diarrhea up to the fall of 1864 at which time I think it was he moved to the State of Kansas. Did not see him again until 1882. He stayed all night at our house in 1882 and was taking medicine at that time for chronic diarrhea. He was a brother to my husband." On Dec. 19, 1890 an affidavit is filed in Christina County, Illinois by John Frazer, aged 61 and Margaret Frazer, aged 54, of Taylorsville, Illinois, they state "Elizabeth P. Beatty who was the first wife of Jacob H. Beatty who was late a private in Co. "B" 8th Ill Inf. Vols died in Macon County State of Illinois about the summer of 1860 the exact date not remembered. These facts affiants know by reason of being present at her death and funeral." On September 20, 1892 Mary E. Blake filed a children's application for pension. A copy of her marriage license to W. W. Blake is in the file. It shows that Mary E. Beatty, aged 45, married W. W. Blake, aged 53 at Dennis, Labette County, Kansas on Nov. 28, 1889. Pension was granted for the minor heirs of Jacob Beatty and continued until they reached the age of 16. 1860, Decatur, Macon Co., Illinois p714 Jacob Beaty 29 PA Elizabeth 25 ILL Adna 5 ILL Mary 2 ILL Cassiue 3/12 ILL Charlotte Frazer 25 ILL Almira Frazer 8 ILL (in same county) Dowling, Macon Co., p 752 Saml W.
