George Beatty, Company "G" 111th Pennsylvania Infantry, father James Beatty (application # 400,735) On July 16, 1889 James Beatty, aged 75 and a resident of Crawford County, Pennsylvania applied for a Father's Pension. He states that he is the father of George Beatty, Company "G" 111th, who died at "the U. S. General Hospital 16th Filbert St. Philadelphia on the 5th day of Oct. A. D. 1862 of Typhoid Fever." James was married to "Mary Beatty the mother of said son, at South Shenango Crawford Co., Pa., on the 12th day of April 1839. That the mother of said son died at Sadsbury Township, Crawford County, Pa., on the 13th day of June in the year of our Lord 1884." At the date of George's death James had the following children under the age of 16: John born 1848, Sade J. born May 6th 1851, Lant (?) born Dec. 20, 1853, and W. Ed born June 29, 1855. Henry C. Davis and Edward Beatty are witnesses to James Beatty's signature. John P. Keen, aged 57, and Samuel Keen, aged 54, both of Evansburg, Crawford County, Pennsylvania state "the only income he [James] had was derived from a piece of land of about one hundred acres which was in 1862 nearly covered with timber of not much value upon which he lived and that his son George worked hard and contributed all the benefit of his labor toward his support up to the time he enlisted." John Shellito, aged 68, of North Shenango, Crawford County, Pennsylvania states "I was present and saw him [James] publicly married to Mary Shellito on the 12th day of April 1839 by Esq. Gaugh of South Shenango Township Crawford Co., Pa., and that Mary the wife of James Beatty and mother of George Beatty died June 13th 1884 and that George Beatty was born Oct. 22, 1841 and that he the said George was never married and left no widow or children surviving him." Jane Johnston, aged 60, of South Shenango County, Crawford County, Pa., makes a similar statement. She was also a witness to the marriage of James Beatty and Mary Shellito. On Oct. 21, 1889 James Beatty fills out a general affidavit in which he writes "I was born April 6th 1814 and that I was married April 12th 1839 at North Shenango Tp. Crawford County, Pa., to Mary Shellito by Esq. Gaugh who is now dead and that my wife died June 13th, 1884 - and that I had sons and daughters as follows - George who died Oct. 5, 1862 - Samuel who was born on Dec. 5, 1843 now living -Dawson born March 12, 1845 now living -Catherine born Aug. 22, 1847 now living -James born March 7th 1849 died June 5th 1880 -John born Jan. 12, 1850, died April 24, 1883 - Sade J. born May 6th 1851 now living -Lanson born Dec. 20, 1853 now living -Edward born Aug. 15, 1855 now living-And I further state that I have been crippled in one of my knees for more than thirty years and not able to earn a living for myself or family and that no person was legally bound to support me at the time of the death of my son George." On April 12, 1895 Alanson Beatty, aged 42, of Crawford County, Pennsylvania states "I am the son of James Beatty.My father lives with me. I am bound by law to support him by his making a deed of this farm of 100 acres to me for his support. I gave bonds of $1000 for performance of same. It was executed about 17 years ago by Esq.
