John H. Beatty, Company "A" 8th Ohio Infantry; mother Elizabeth Beatty (#33,975) On August 15, 1864 Elizabeth Beatty, aged 48 years, a resident of Mexico in the County of Wyandot, and State of Ohio.says that she is the widow of William Beatty and mother of John H. Beatty deceased who was a Private in Company "A" commanded by Lieutenant Wetherall in the 8th Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry commanded by Lt. Colonel F. Sawyer in the War of 1861 who was killed in the battle of Spottsylvania Court House on the 12th day of May 1864. G. W. Biles and John Cooper of Mexico, Ohio state that they were acquainted with William Beatty, deceased, and that William died on the April 25, 1864. They further state "while the said William Beatty was yet living for more then ten years last past he was very intemperate and wholly failed to provide for his family in consequence of which the said soldier, John H. Beatty, was compelled to and actually did support this applicant his mother for a number of years before he entered service and while in service, he statedly sent ! her money: to wit: all the pay he received excepting what little he was obliged to use himself.." Elizabeth was granted $8.00 per month to commence May 12, 1864. She was paid through 4 December 1882 when she was dropped because of "Information received by letter from Wm Beatty, Mexico Ohio saying pensioner died Jan. 18, 1883." 1860, Mexico P.
