I copied 22 pages from this file--there were many pages that I did not copy. Nicholas Beaty, Civil War Pension For Minor Children, Mary A. Beaty, John F. Beaty and Nicholas G. Beaty (certificate # 188,607 and 188,608) The service record of Nicholas Baty, Co. G 5th Regiment of East Tenn. Inf shows that at the time of enlistment, he was 27 years old, 5 feet 9 inches, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair and born in Blount County, Tennessee. On December 10, 1874, Luther F. Chandler a resident of Sumner County, Kansas, guardian of the minor children of Nicholas Beaty (Mary A., John F. and Nicholas W.) files for a pension on their behalf. He states that their father, Nicholas Beaty, was a Sergeant in Company G, 5th Regiment of East Tennessee Infantry in the Civil War. He states that Nicholas died in Nashville Tennessee on April 3, 1865 from disease contracted while in the Service and in the line of duty. He states that Mary A. Beaty was born Nov. 25, 1857; John F. Beaty was born April 26, 1861 and Nicholas W. Beaty was born Dec. 19, 1864. The mother of the children, Sarah E. Gant was married to Nicholas Beaty on Oct. 30, 1856 in Bradley County, Tennessee. She has since remarried. A certified copied of a Bible record filed in Greene County, Missouri in Feb. 1877 states: Mary Adline Baty was borned November the 25, 1857 John Franklin Baty was borned Aprile(sic) the 26 1861 Nicholas Washington Baty was borned December the 17 1864 This is to certify that the above is a true and correct copy of the record of the births of Mary Adline Baty, John Franklin Baty and Nicholas Washington Baty as found in family record book of Nicholas Baty Decd. Made by me the undersigned Notary Public duly qualified 30th May 1874 and term expies 25th March 1878, within and for Greene County in the State of Missouri This 9th Feb. 1877. Joseph Young and Susan Lee of Cumberland, Bradley County, Tennessee, state that they were present at the marriage of Nicholas Beaty and Sarah E. Gant were married by the Rev. Noah Smith at the house of Mr. James Beaty near Cleveland Tennessee on the 30th day of Oct. 1856. James Beaty, age 71, of Cumberland, Bradley County, Tennessee states he is the father of said Nicholas Beaty & the Grand Father of his said Nicholas Beatys three children who were living at time of his death. That he has now present a record of their births, kept by the deponent in his own family Bible, the date & title page of which is missing. That it appears to be an old Family Bible the title page in first of the book is missing, but the title page to the New Testament therein bears date 1853. In another document dated Sept. 12, 1877, James Beaty states Sarah E. Beaty has since the death of her husband Nicholas B. Beaty intermarried with a man by the name of Newton in the State of Missouri.. Mary Beaty, who resides with her husband Thomas Beaty, in Bradley County, Tennessee in August of 1877, states that she was well acquainted with Sarah E. Beaty in the lifetime of the said Nicholas B. Beaty In 1909, Sarah Newton, late widow of Nicholas Beaty states she drew a pension as his widow...until my remarriage to John S. Newton. I was married to John S. Newton September 1, 1867, and we continued husband & wife until his death which occurred April 11, 1897, at Woodruff, Platte Co., MO.
