He enrolled on February 19, 1864 in Co. “I” 14th regiment Of Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, commanded by Captain Michael Crawley and was discharged at Mobile, Alabama on October 9, 1865. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall with a dark complexion, black hair and black eyes. In 1897 Patrick Beaty states that he married Mary O’Donnell in Hixton, Wisconsin 15 years ago. He was previously married to Mary Lewis in 1866 and she died April 1889. The names of his children are; Wm born Sept 27, 1868 John born Sept. 22, 1872 Sarah born April 4th 1877 Maggie born Feb. 27, 1869 Hugh born April 12, 1880 In 1898 he gives his wife’s maiden name as Mary Masckey (?) and says they were married 14 years ago by a Black River Falls Catholic Minister and states that he has a Catholic marriage certificate.
