    3. This is what I have found on the John Beaty of the will. It possibly should be merged with L-178. Donna L-3 Descendants of John Beaty Generation No. 1 1. JOHN1 BEATY died Abt. October 1790. He married MARGARET ??. She died Aft. 1795. Notes for JOHN BEATY: Information known about John Beaty. Wife Margaret is alive in 1795 per deed selling husband's land & mentioned in son James' will. 1.William is oldest son per father's will and still alive in 1795 deed 2.Andrew-named executorin father's will with brother John in 1784 and dead by Aug. 1795 when his brother is called "surviving executor"-probably no heirs or they would have been on deed selling his share. 3.James alive in 1784 named in father's will-left will in 1795 naming sister Elizabeth Marshal, brothers John & Joseph. 4.John-named in 1784 will of father & 1795 willof brother and "surviving executor" in August 1795 deed-no wife signs dower in 1795 5. Robert named in father's will in 1784, named in brother James will in Jan. 1795 and signs deed for father's estate in August 1795-no wife signs dower. 6. Elizabeth-named in father's will in 1784, named in brother James will in Jan. 1795(Elizabeth Marshall) and signs deed for father's estate in August 1795 (Elizabeth Marshall, wife of Michael Marshall).Married Michael Marshall. 7.Alexander-named in father's will in 1784 but dead before deed in 1795-no heirs sign deed. 8. Samuel-named in father's will in 1784 but dead before deed in 1795-no heirs sign deed. 9. AA Vol. 11 pg. 315) there was granted unto Robert Sturgeon a tract of land called Sturgeon Hall in Rye twp., Cumberland co., PA beginning...marked birch.....side of Juniata River...thence by Andrew Steavens land...and David Inglishes land...containing 101 acres and a quarter acre plus allowance. Now know ye that Robert Sturgeon & Jean, his wife for 1000£ paid by John Beattey of Rye twp., Cumberland co., PA ....set their hand & seal this 3 April 1779. Robert Sturgeon & Jane, his wife for 1000£ conveyed this piece of land to John Beatty as by deed 3 April 1779 and the said John Beatty, now deceased did by his last will & testament recorded in Carlisle, did will among other things that in five years after his decease the said described tract should be sold by his two sons Andrew & John who he appointed sole executors of his last will & testament and the money arising to be divided among his children as therein mentioned. Now the said John Beatty, surviving executor, and the rest of the surviving heirs Viz. That is to say principally and first of all I give my soul unto the almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent way nothing doubting but at the general resurrection soul & body shall be joined again by the great power of God and touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bestow upon me here in this world I give, demise and dispose of in the following way and manner, that is to say that all my just and legal debts be paid by my executors which I shall hereafter appoint who shall regulate and divide my estate in the following way and manner, that is to say, I do leave and bequeath unto my dear and best loved wife Margared a bead and bead cloaths (bed-DVZ) her chuse of the best cow about the house besides a decent creadable mantanince such as the estate can afford. I do leave and will unto my oldest son William two pounds fifteen shillings out of my estate real and personal, he not claiming any more from my executors. I do leave unto my three sons Andrew, John and James, each of them fifteen pounds over and above their equal share with their younger breathen and sister and the remaining part of my estate real and personal to be divided equally amoungst my eight children, that is to say, Andrew, John, James and Robert, Elisabeth, Alexand, Samuel and Joseph. I do leave unto my little grandson James one pound ten shillings, it is my will that Samuel and Joseph be put to treads (trades-DVZ) that Joseph be scholed as far as the rest of his breathern that Robert would incline to improve the trade he already has got the greatest part of or if he will not that he go and learn one that he more delights in and if any of my children after my decease gets any value over the rest it is to be accounted up in their share as for the plantation we now live upon after my just debts is paid and if it can be got satled (settled-DVZ) the lines which I believe we have a just right to if Andrew or anyone inclines to keep it if you or John or James and cann agree with the others they may and do nominate and ordain appoint my two sons andrew and John to be the true faithfull and trusty executors & administers of this my last will and testament charging and confiding in you that you will do justice and equity to your young breatheren as far as God enables you if the place is to be sold I will that it may not for the space of five years except the executors sees a merchant to their likeing and that this limit of time is to be after my decease and that not any of their younger breathren or sister is to recover what may be coming to them in less time than the aforesaid five years unless my aforesaid two sons Andrew and John sells and gets money for their necesisitys requires & they cann give them some help but what part may be coming to them James is due or upon interest in two years, Robert and Elizabeths in four years, Alexander & Samuels at the end of the aforesaid five years and Joseph at the end of seven years as for any more particulars I leave it to the wisdom & prudence of my good, kind, and dutifull children as they have been kind & dutifull to their parents that they will be kind to and love one another and the God of love & of peace I hope will bless them in their undertakings. The document is 4 legal pages long and is filled with signatures, primarily people who lived along the Sherman's Creek and used it for navigation of some sort. I found a map in the church records section placing Dick's Gap Church where the Pine Grove Church now stands near the central western edge of Miller Twp., Perry Co.. It locates the church between Hickory Ridge and just near the base of Mahanoy Ridge just north of the gap in the ridge. Dick's Ridge is yet south of Mahanoy Ridge along the southern boarder of Miller Twp.. I hope this somehow helps the person who was asking for the placement of Dick's Gap Church. Best Wishes...
