    3. Civil War Pension: James A. Beatty, mother Margaret (application # 73,660), Pennsylvania In October of 1864 Margaret Beatty, aged 69 and a resident of Allegheny, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (Jefferson Street), submitted a "Mother's Application for Army Pension." Margaret is the widow of Joseph Beatty and the mother of James A. Beatty who was a Private in Company "K" commanded by Captain Grubb in the 5th regiment of West Virginia Cavalry Volunteers, who died at New Creek Va. on the 8th day of October 1864 and the cause of death was "being thrown from his horse." A letter from the Adjutant General's Office states that James enlisted at Wheeling, West Virginia. Margaret married Joseph Beatty, father of the soldier, on January 10, 1815 at Ireland by Mr. McGee a clergyman. She states that she had eight children: Alexander, James, John, George, Mary Jane, John G., Nancy and James A. Beatty. Margaret's claim is stamped "Abandoned." Laurel Baty, L252
