Beatty, John M. "K" 4 Pa Cav; mother Margaret (#91,476) In 1866, Margaret Beatty, aged 65 and a resident of Irwin Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania submitted a "Mother's Application for Army Pension." She is the widow of Henry Beatty and mother of John M. Beatty who was a private in Company "K" in the 4th Regiment of Pennsylvania Cavalry in the war of 1861 who died at Fortress Monroe on or about the 28th day of September 1862 of consumption. Margaret married Henry Beatty on October 25, 1815 at Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. She had three children named Elizabeth McBride, Ebenezer Beatty and Henry C. Beatty. John Gill and G. K. Evans of Wolfcreek Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania identify Margaret stating they had known her for 20 years. Henry C. Beatty and George Cavens state "John M. Beatty lived at home with his mother before he entered the military service or more rather his mother lived with him. That a few years before he went into the army said John M. purchased in his own name twenty five acres of land in Irwin Township Venango Co. Pa. and lived on it until he entered the service.Henry Beatty died about fifteen years ago. That said Margaret Beatty received no property from her husband' s estate after his death as the same was distributed among other heirs and squandered. That said Henry Beatty left him surviving three sons. That Ebenezer one of said sons never contributed and does not now contribute anything to the support of his mother.
