    3. Edmund Beatty, Private Co. "H" 95th Ohio Infantry; mother Mary Beatty (application # 324,557) On March 3, 1885 Mary Beatty of Sussex County, New Jersey filed a claim for a Mother's Pension. She states that she was the mother of Edmund Beatty who enlisted near Columbus Ohio in August of 1862 in Company "H" of the 95th regiment of Ohio Infantry and was drowned while unloading army stores near Memphis, Tennessee. She states that she married Edmund's father at Sparta New Jersey on March 28, 1838 and Edmund's father is still living and his name is ___ Beattie. Mary states that she had the following children under age of 16 at the time of Edmund's death: Amanda born 1846; Robert born 1849 and Elswatte (??very difficult handwriting) born 1859. The War Department showed that Edmund deserted from steamer Brazil at Memphis Tennessee while on fatigue duty March 15, 1863.
