    3. Civil War Pension of Peter Thomas Beatty (Certificate # 161,044); Widow Mary (Certificate # 663,289) Peter T. Beatty of Douglas County Kansas applied for an Invalid Pension in March of 1878. He states that he enlisted near Lebanon, Kentucky in February of 1862 as a Private in Company "C" in the 40th regiment of Indiana Volunteers and he was discharged in February of 1865. He was "treated.for a gunshot wound in the left hip at Nashville Tennessee from about January 1863 and at Chattanooga, Tennessee and Madison, Indiana for shell wounds in the left thigh.He received a gunshot wound in the left hip at the battle of Stone River, while in action, on or about the 1st day of January 1863; and he received a shell wound in the left thigh at the battle of Missionary Ridge, about Nov. 25, 1863, in action." Since his service he has resided at Indiana, Kentucky and Kansas. In 1898 Peter states that he married Mary McCarthy on January 3, 1884 at Arlington, Reno County, Kansas. He lists his living children as Mary E. Beatty born Nov. 4, 1885 and Margaret A. Beatty born December 22, 1890 (this date is also given as 1891 in another form). Peter's marriage license states that "Thos. P. Batty of Reno Co. aged 35 years and Mary McCarty aged 22 years" were licensed to marry and the license was returned with "I. G. H. Hartman do hereby certify that in accordance with the authorization of the within License, I did on the 3d day of January A. D. 1884, at Arlington in said County, join and unite in Marriage the above named Thomas P. Beatty and Mary McCarthy." On a Surgeon's certificate filled out in 1903 when Peter was 71 years old he is said to weigh 140 pounds, be 5 feet 6 inches tall, have gray hair, light blue eyes and a sallow complexion. He has a tattoo of a ballet girl on his left forearm and P. T. Beatty on his right. His birthplace is given as King County, Ireland. Peter died at age 75 on September 8, 1908; his nationality is listed as Irish and his parents name is not given on his birth certificate. Mary Beatty, aged 54 applies for a widow's pension on September 15, 1908. She is living at Hutchinson, Kansas. 1900, Reno County, Kansas, Medora Township, page 56 Beatty, Peter T.
