Beatty; "E" 24th Iowa Infantry; mother Lydia Beatty (application # 243,757) In 1879 Lydia Beatty, aged 64 and a resident of Traer, Tama County, Iowa filed a Mother's Application for pension. She is the widow of Henry Beatty and the mother of William W. Beatty who enlisted at Buckingham Iowa in August of 1862 in Company "E" 24th Regiment of Iowa Volunteers in the war of rebellion, and who died of bilious intermittent fever in General Hospital at Keokuk, Iowa. Henry Beatty died at Traer Iowa March 27, 1874 at age 64. In 1865 at her son William's death she had one child under 16, Henry O. Beatty, born September 1856. Lydia states her son William was "the business manager of the family" due to her husband's feeble health. She states "I am now left in destitute circumstances having no single children to aid me in my support."
