John Beatty Jr., Co. "D"10th Ohio Vol. Cav., father John Beatty, Sandusky County, Ohio. On April 30, 1861 John Beatty, aged 61 years and a resident of Sandusky County, Ohio applied for a Father's pension. He states that his son, John Beatty enlisted on Nov. 1, 1862 in Company "D" 10th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry and died of Typhoid fever on the 18th day of August 1863 at Hospital No. 19 Nashville, Tennessee. He states that he was married to the soldier's mother at Fort Covington, Franklin County, State of New York on March 22, 1833 by Hobbel Paine a Justice of the Peace. He states that his living children are (this document has very difficult handwriting): Mary Wooley age 33 resides Erie Co., Ohio Charles Beatty aged 25 resides Erie Co., Ohio Rebecca Beatty aged 20 resides in Indiana, place unknown James Beatty aged 13 resides with applicant John Beatty the above named soldier "was born May 17, 1845 in Erie County, Ohio as is now shown by the family Records of Births in affiants possession." This is "a true and correct copy of the record of the Birth of John Beaty as recorded in the family Bible now in possession of the Father of the above named John Beaty; said family Bible stereotyped by A. Chandler for the American Bible Society 1837." John Beatty states "my Post Office address at the death of the Soldier was Castulia, Erie County, Ohio and was my Post Office address until 1870 and since 1870 my Post Office address has been Whitman , Sandusky County, Ohio, my oldest child Phebey Beatty born August 16, 1840, Charles Beatty my next child born August 16, 1842, John Beatty the soldier born May 17, 1845, Rebecca Beatty was born November 15, 1847, and James Beatty was born June 6, 1857 & married September 18, 1878 and went to the State of Michigan as soon as he was married, the number of my family in 1863 was my daughter Phebey and my son Charles." On April 18, 1888 Uriah Tucker, aged 80 of Lucas County Ohio states "he was present and saw the first above named John Beatty married to Miss Anna McKilleps (McKilless?) at Fort Covington, Franklin County in the State of New York on the 22 of March 1833."
