I stumbled across a new set of pensions at the Archives today while I was researching Southern Claims Commission. These are on microfiche publication M1279, Case Files of Approved Pension Applications of Widows and other Dependents of Civil War and later Navy Veterans 1861 -1910. RG 15 Ca. 40,000 microfiche. Each file is on its own microfiche (sometimes these are multiple). I located the following Beatys (all spellings): Beattie, Edward fiche # 17368, Cert # 18820 [widow Mary, Chelsea, Suffolk Co, Mass.] Beattie, James Fiche # 9699, Cert #10585 [Widow Catherine, NY, NY] Beattie, James fiche # 13132, Cert #14214, 2 microfiche [widow Margaret, Lynchburg, Harris Co, TX] Beatty, John Fiche #4060, Cert # 4789--I copied this file and will abstract Beatty, John fiche #11433, Cert # 12401 [widow Agnes, NY, ,NY] Beatty, Joseph W. K. fiche # 14949, cert # 16161 Beatty, Samuel fiche # 6873, cert # 7665 I read over all of the pensions except the last two. I decided only to copy one since most were over 60 pages long. These individual microfiche can be purchased from the National Archives for $4.75 (look towards the bottom of the page to see the microfiche cost, a true bargain since to copy 60 frames, average size of most of these pensions, costs $18.80: http://www.archives.gov/publications/how_to_order_microfilm.html I will post short abstracts of the files I read and plan to read the last two on my next visit. I also found a new link on WWW.NARA.gov for ordering copies of Pension files: https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonline/start.swe?SWECmd=Start There are sample pages of pension applications --do note that you will receive "select pages" of the files.
