    3. This is a summary of the notes I took on the 3 microfiche that I read. Beattie, Edward fiche # 17368, cert # 18820 In 1907 Edward Beattie is 72 and living in Chelsea, Suffolk Co Mass. He enlisted 21 Sept. 1862 as a seaman in the Civil War and was discharged at Ft Monroe Sept. 1863. He was born Jan. 18, 1835 at Picton, Nova Scotia. He has resided in Chelsea since 1880 and was at sea for 15 years before this. He served on USS "Ohio," "Sabine," and "Brandywine." He lived in Providence Rhode Island before he enlisted. He has india ink marks [tattoos] --coat of arms & E. Beattie on right arm also a woman & eagle. He has an English Coat of arms & a crucifix on his left arm. His wife's name was Mary McAchern and they were married June 10, 1866 at Picton, Nova Scotia. A marriage license from Nova Scotia lists Edward's parents as Robert & Margaret and Mary's parents as Duncan & Annie. In 1898 Edward states he has 3 living children: John T. born 8-31-1867; James L. born 11-10-1868 and Mabel F. born May 14, 1881. Beattie, James Fiche # 9699, cert # 10585 Widow Catherine applies for a pension in Dec. 1894 while she is a resident of NY, NY. Her maiden name was Catherine Newell and she was married Dec. 11, 1866 in NY City. Children were Alfred born April 2, 1880 and Matilda born July 27, 1882. James died in 1894 and a copy of his death certificate is in the file. Both James and Catherine were born in Ireland. She states "My late husband is a name that can be spelled in various ways and yet have the same sound and pronunciation and that is the only reason I can give why it is spelled in the different ways stated above." Beattie, James fiche # 13132, cert # 14214 (2 microfiche) In 1898 James lives in Lynchburg, Harris County, TX and is 63 years old. He enlisted in 1863 and served on "Clara Polsen" "Argosy" and "Key West." He was discharged in April of 1864. His widow, Margaret lives in Houston TX in 1899. Margaret's maiden name was Margaret Jane Kelley and she married James at Galveston, TX on June 21, 1880. Their children include Cordelia born 26 Mar 1884 and James born 3 July 1886 (they have several deceased children). James was born in Annon, Scotland on Jan 17, 1842. There is a copy of a Family Bible record in this file. Martha J. Kelley, mother of Margaret gives deposition--she is living in Arapahoe County, Colorado. Beatty, John fiche # 11433 cert # 12401 John died Oct. 17, 1897. His widow's maiden name was Agnes Rauaghan and they were married Nov. 24, 1871 in NY city. John and Agnes were both born in Ireland.
