    3. Huntingdon co., PA Wills(DVZ) Microfilm # 0854232 Vol. 3 pg. 288 (1822-1835) Last Will and Testament of John Beatty, dec'd. In the name of God, Amen. I, John Beatty of the borough and county of Huntingdon in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania being of sound and disposing mind and memory do make ordain and constitute this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following, viz. It is my will and desire that all my just debts and personal expenses be paid by my executors hereinafter named, as soon as convenient after my decease. I give, devise and bequeath to Ann Taylor who has long lived with me one bed, bedding, and bed stead, one table, and six chairs all to be left to her own choice. Also I give, devise and bequeath to Polly Taylor, daughter of the said Ann, one bed, bedding and bed stead, one sewing stand, one bureau and one looking glass of her own choice after that of her mother. Also I give, will and bequeath to James Osburn, who once lived with me the sum of one hundred dollars to be paid as soon as the same can be reasonably raised out of my estate after payment of my debts. And all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate real and personal I authorize and empower my executors hereinafter named and the survivor of them to sell and dispose of at such time and on such conditions as they may think proper. Hereby granting to them or the survivor of them full power and authority to make and execute deed or deeds to the purchaser or purchasers of my real estate. And I give and devise to my friends Thomas Jackson and John McCahan the one equal fourth part of all the said residue of all my estate and to the survivor of them, their executors or administrators in trust and for the sole use and benefit of my beloved sister Nancy Adams, wife of John Adams of Frankstown settlement to be paid and given to her at such time and times and in such proportions as they in their discretion may think right and proper and necessary for her support and comfort for and during her natural life, she to give and grant receipts to them not withstanding her coverture and should any of the said fourth part of my estate remain in the hands of the trustees hereinbefore named at her decease then I give devise and bequeath the same to the children of my said sister, to be divided between them, share and share alike. Also I give, devise and bequeath to the said Ann Taylor hereinbefore mentioned one other fourth part of all the said residue of my estate, to her, her heirs and assigns. Also I give devise and bequeath to Polly Taylor hereinbefore named the one eighth part of all the said residue of my estate to hold to her, her heirs and assigns and the three remaining eighth parts of the same I give, devise and bequeath to Mary B. Jackson, (daughter of my friend and brother-in-law, Thomas Jackson) and John Beatty Adams, son of my before named sister, Nancy Adams to be equally divided between them, share and share alike, their heirs and assigns. And I do hereby constitute my friends the before named Thomas Jackson and John McCahan to be executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. Allison James Steel I, John Beatty being of sound and disposing mind and memory do this 22d day of August 1825 make this codicil to my last will and testament hereinbefore written and bearing date the 22d day of March in the present year, viz, I give devise and bequeath to my niece Jane McCartney, late Jane Beatty, now wife of Alexander McCartney, printer, of the state of Tennessee the sum of one hundred dollars to be paid out of the residuary part of my estate my said will mentioned, as soon as the same can be reasonably raised out of my estate after payment of my debts. In testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this day and year first hereinbefore written. John Beatty Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of us: R. Allison James Steele Hunterdon County, SS Before me the register for the probate of wills and granting letters of administration in and for the said county personally appeared Robert Allison, Esq., who being sworn according to law deposeth and saith that he was personally present and saw and heard the within named John Beatty sign, seal, execute, publish, pronounce and declare the first within and foregoing instrument of writing dated the 22d day of March 1825 as and for his last will and testament and likewise the within codicil dated the 22d day of August 1825 as and for a codicil to his said last will and that he the said Robert Allison did sign his name to each of the said instruments of writing as a witness in the presence of James Steel, Esq., the other subscribing witness and in the presence of the said testator and at his instance and request; and at the said several times of executing the said several instruments of writing the said testator was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge and belief. R. Allison Sworn and subscribed the 8th day of May 1829. D. N. Porter, Reg. Huntington County, SS Before me the register for the probate of wills and granting.............................. (James Steel-same as above witness) Renunciation of John McCahan To David N. Porter, Esq., Register Sir, I hereby renounce acting as an executor of the estate of John Beatty, late of the Borough of Huntingdon, deceased, given under my hand this 18th day of May 1829. Jno. McCahan Thomas Jackson, executor of John Beatty, dec'd. Memorandum: Letters of Testamentary were this day granted to Thomas Jackson, one of the executors of the last will and testament of John Beatty, late of the boro' of Huntingdon. dec'd. Inventory to be exhibited within one month and a just and true account, calculation and reckoning of his said administration within one year. Given under my seal of office this 19th day of May 1829.
