    3. Have any of you checked out the Making of America site lately? http://www.hti.umich.edu/m/moagrp/ There are thousands of mentions of Beatty, Beattie ect in books and Journals. These could be anything from novels to one such as the one below which gives details on enlisted men. "Author: New York (State) Adjutant-general's office. Title: A record of the commissioned officers, non-commissioned officers, privates, of the regiments which were organized in the state of New York and called into the service of the United States to assist in suppressing the rebellion, caused by the secession of some of the southern states from the Union, A.D. 1861, as taken from the muster-in rolls on file in the adjutant-general's office, S. N. Y. Publication date: 1864-68. Collection: Making of America Books Search results: 3 matches in full text" Another one I was reading was a history of a Beattie from scotland who in the 1700's became a doctor of literature and wrote many poems. The book had about an 8 page biography on his life. It can take a long time to weed ones way through this site but there is a lot of great info in it. Sheila I Hale
