    3. >From National Archives Publication M1407, "Barred & Disallowed Case Files of the Southern Claims Commision, 1871 - 1880" This is another barred claim--these are the easiest to find because they are in alphabetical order on the microfiche. The disallowed claims have to be located by office # and Report # which requires a separate index, each name must be looked up in the index and the office # and Report # located. Then, using these numbers and yet another index you can find the claim. Alexander Beatie, Washington Co. Arkansas--Barred Claim Fiche #4306 This is a short claim, basically a printed form was filled out. I will transcribe the first page of the form so that you get a feel for what is on the claim (putting hand written items in quotes): PETITION TO the HONORABLE COMMISSIONER of CLAIMS Under the Act of Congress of March 9, 1871, Washington, D. C. The Petition of "Alexander Beatie" respectfully represents: That he is citizen of the United States and reside at present [1] "Washington County Arkansas" That he has a claim against the United States for [2] "items taken in 1862" as follows: "Three head of horses worth the sum of $150.00 each---$450.00 Forty head of Hogs worth $15.00 per head---$600.00 1000 Bushels of Corn worth one dollar per Bushel ---$1000.00 Hay and oats to the amount of $200.00 -$200.00 Four head of Beef Cattle worth twenty Dollars per head---$80.00" Total Value of Property $2,330.00 That all the items in the above schedule were of the full value therein set forth and were your petitioner for the use of and were used by the United States army [4] "while staioned at Rheas Mill before Prairie Grove Battle was taken by order of Col Phillips the Commander of said Regiment in 1862." The form asks for names and residences of witnesses who will be relied upon to prove loyalty and Alexander lists the following (all of Rheas Mill, Ark.): Alvin Beatie, Frank Beatie, Samuel Beatie, Emly Beatie And, when asked for names who will be "relied upon to prove the other facts alleged in the foregoing petition" Alexander gives the following: Alvin Beatie; Frank Beatie member of Col M. La Rue Harrison; Samul Beatie member of Moonlights Regt Kansas Trops (sic). The form is 3 pages long and there are 2 more pages with misc. cards.
