Finlaw Beatty, Company "A" 16th Iowa Infantry, widow Rhoda Beatty (Certificate # 45,628) Guardian Rhoda Eckles, (minor's certificate # 153,417) On October 25, 1864 Rhoda Beatty, aged 24 and a resident of Lyons, Clinton County, Iowa filed a Widow's Declaration for Pension. She is the widow of Finlaw Beatty who was a Sergeant in Company "A" commanded by Captain Smith of the 16th Iowa Infantry in the "War with the Confederate States." Finlaw Beatty was "killed at battle of Peachtree Creek Georgia" on or about July 21, 1864. A copy of the marriage certificate of Rhoda Warren and Finlaw Beatty shows that they were married on October 15, 1856 at La Crosse, La Crosse County, Wisconsin by William Card, a Baptist Minister. Finlaw had one surviving child at his death, Evaline P. Beatty, aged seven years October 24, 1864 (born October 24, 1857.) William W. Beatty and Robert S. Campbell are witnesses to Rhoda Beatty's application. William Beatty further declares "said William W. Beatty is father of said Finlaw & knows him from his birth and has known said declarant for fourteen years." On September 28, 1866 Rhoda Beatty files a claim for increase in Pension. She is now residing in New Hartford, Winona County, Minnesota. M. L. Tibbetts and Eliza M. Tibetts witness Rhoda Beatty's signature and claim that they have known her and Finlaw Beatty for ten years. On February 12, 1867 Warrhum W. Warren and Martha M. Warren residents of Olmsted County, Minnesota state "in the autumn of the year 1857 these deponents resided at the village of Dresbach in the County of Winona Minnesota and that they were at that time well acquainted with Finlaw Beattey and Rhoda Beattey his wife who in the month of October 1857 also resided in said village of Dresbach in said county of Winona Minnesota that on the 24th day of October 1857 these deponents were called to the house of said Finlaw Beattey in said village of Dresbach that the said Rhoda Beattey at that time gave birth to a female child who was afterwards named Eveline P. Beattey." On June 27, 1871 Rhoda B. Eckles, aged 29 and a resident of Olmsted County, Minnesota filed a claim for Pension as guardian of a minor child. She states that she married William Eckles on July 13, 1870. A copy of the marriage certificate shows that they were married in Olmsted County, Minnesota by M. L.
